A relatively new phenomenon, hand-held cellphones and pad devices have been offenders held responsible for impairing our overall health, our eye site, our hearing, our sleep patterns, irradiating us, and even spoiling our personal relationships. Accidents occurring as a result of walking and/or driving while checking the smartphone have increased dramatically, sometimes resulting in loss of life. Now we have another potential side-effect – and the contest between appearance and technology is on.
Can smartphones prematurely age you? Our dependence on cell phones and other portable electronic devices appears to be sparking a relatively new phenomenon, but it could become a drooping jawline epidemic. It’s what is currently called “Smartphone Face” for lack of a better term. What is it you ask? Smartphone Face is a reflection of YOU with a combination of sagging jowls, double chins, and marionette lines. It begins to develop as a result of sitting for hours on end staring at your cell phone or laptop pad with a bent neck, head slightly forward. This lovely “downward gaze” position tends to shorten the neck muscles while simultaneously increasing our friend – gravitational pull – on the jowl area. Viola! We have drooping jawline! It’s especially noticeable during selfie sessions and video-chats. Even the younger generation is at greater risk for drooping jawline and neck creasing.
In and of itself, a smartphone isn’t going to cause drooping and line formation. Most physical symptoms of smartphone face can be attributed to genetics, the progressive skin laxity and loss of collagen associated with aging, and variations in weight. Combined with the downward gravitational pull of gazing into the mobile device, the lower portions of some people’s faces are naturally more susceptible to developing the indications of this affliction. While the least costly and most effective “cure” for Smartphone Face is to go cold turkey and abandon the use of your hand-held communication device, we all know in this world of gadgets that isn’t going to happen. That leaves other options of surgery or cosmetic treatments.
In recent years there appears to be a rapid rise (over 70% increase) in “chinplants” and other jaw-focused cosmetic surgery. So much in fact that a name has been coined for chin plant surgery to correct Smartphone Face – the “chintervention”. However, a chin implant can typically cost in the range of $7,000, and cost aside, it is not really the solution for most people, because in Smartphone Face, the principal problem is not bone loss which a chin plant corrects. It’s the interrelationship of fat and soft tissue loss with gravitational pull emphasized by the bent neck/downward oriented facial position.
So, a unless bone loss is your issue, you can avoid surgery and firm up your jawline with a plethora of less invasive techniques ranging from: face yoga; home gym neckline trainers and other facial exercises; chin sculpting dermal fillers, wrinkle inhibitor injections such as Botox; skin-tightening lotions and facials; liposuction/laser tighteners; and then there is Ultherapy treatment.
Ultherapy is LaserMed’s recommended non-surgical FDA cleared treatment that has the capability to lift and tighten those first telltale signs of technology – receding jawline, bulldog jowls, sagging skin on the neck and chin jiggle, with minimal downtime using a non-invasive procedure. Ultherapy™ works similarly to an ultrasound. A smooth applicator is placed on your skin, which projects an image onto a screen. Low levels of focused heat are delivered at just the right depth below the skin, leaving the skin’s surface undisturbed. Your skin then responds to the energy by triggering new collagen production, which forms a sturdy structure for your skin, giving it a natural lift and firmness over time. This process continues for 2 to 3 months after having the Ultherapy™ treatment.
The whole treatment is done in about an hour and is done in Dr. Chapman’s office located on Old Alabama Rd. in Johns Creek, GA. The location is ideal for those living in Alpharetta, Sandy Springs, Cumming, Suwanne, Roswell and Johns Creek, as well as patients from all over the Atlanta Metro area and beyond. Just remember to keep your phone at eye level and your chin up when you text or gaze into your mobile device to maintain your youthful appearance.
Does your chest have “turkey neck”? Are you tired of loving low cut tops but never wearing one? Don’t take off your bathing suit cover up? Do you have a drawer full of scarves to cover up your décolleté area? Like many of us who grew up using baby oil and iodine as our suntan lotion as we baked for hours in the sun trying to attain that perfect caramel color all the way down to our bones, we now are realizing the damage we caused to the delicate skin on our chests. But now LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic has great news to share for patients in the north Atlanta metro area!
Ultherapy announces the new and only FDA cleared non-invasive Décolletage Treatment for the chest to improve the effect of lines and wrinkles on the décolleté area. Ultherapy Décolletage Treatment is a 30 minute single ultrasound procedure with no downtime, designed to stimulate the body’s natural collagen production. And it’s safe. What is so great is that Ultherapy Décolletage treatment can be used as a stand-alone treatment or in addition to the other Ultherapy lifting treatments which we provide on the face and neck.
Ultherapy Décolletage Treatment works by delivering the right amount of ultrasound energy at the right depths and the right temperature. This energy triggers a natural response under the skin, triggering the regenerative process that strengthens weak collagen and produces fresh, new collagen. Other methods used to reduce wrinkles, including lasers, radio frequency technology, and even surgery cannot bypass the superficial skin layers and target the deeper structural sub-layers of the skin. Part of the beauty of the treatment is that it uses traditional ultrasound imaging, which allows Dr. Chapman to see the layers of tissue being treated, ensuring the energy is delivered specifically to the targeted area.
Some patients see an initial effect right after their treatment, but the real results are visible after about three months as new collagen works smooth skin on the chest. Most patients enjoy fresh, young collagen for at least a year after their procedure. As skin continues to age, future touch-up treatments can help keep pace with the natural aging process. Using sunscreen on the décolleté area is a must.
We are proud to be among the first providers of the Ultherapy Décolletage treatment in the north Atlanta metro area, serving residents of Johns Creek, Alpharetta, Milton, Roswell and south Forsyth county. If you feel that you may be a candidate for the Ultherapy Treatment to help minimize the look of your décolleté area wrinkles, contact us to set up a consultation with Dr. Chapman. It’s time to wear V necks again!
Does the thought of exposing your legs anywhere above the knee terrify you? Are Bermudas the only style of shorts you will wear? Do you search for a bathing suit with a skirt to provide the most coverage possible? One term says it all – cellulite. You are not alone in your frustration, and you are not at fault. Scientific study has found that, (unfortunately) women’s bodies are predisposed to develop cellulite. Statistics indicate that almost 90% of American women suffer from some degree of cellulite, and it is difficult to avoid developing the dimpling condition.
According to the current medical standards, cellulite is defined as subcutaneous fat and fibrous tissue deposits that result in the dimpling of the skin surface on the thighs, hips and buttocks, giving it an appearance akin to an orange peel or cottage cheese. The formation of cellulite is a result of five factors: accumulation of toxins; enlarged fat cells; water retention; poor circulation; and thinning of connective tissue. For most women, weight is not a determinant in developing cellulite. In fact, cellulite is often even more visible in thin women. Even maintaining a healthy lifestyle with a proper diet and exercise still does not always eradicate the cellulite, although building smooth muscle beneath the surface of the skin can help smooth out the surface to some degree, and a diet rich in non-processed foods can help decelerate the progression of the condition. Color of skin does not camouflage cellulite. In addition, cellulite does not disappear with traditional liposuction procedures – in fact – the bumpy, lumpy pockets may become more visible. Needless to say, cellulite is very stubborn.
Although there is no miracle cure for Cellulite, LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic introduces a groundbreaking new product from ResolutionMD to help minimize the superficial signs of cellulite. Although the system may be used on its own, results are particularly effective and enhanced when the Resolution Cellulite® System is used in concert with a series of LaserMed’s FIT non-surgical skin tightening laser treatments. FIT is a Multipolar radio frequency procedure which targets laxity and sagginess on the body and face for instant, temporary tightening. Combining the Resolution Cellulite® System with a series of FIT treatment sessions will maintain the FIT skin tightening effects and minimize the bumpy appearance of cellulite.
The application of the Resolution Cellulite® System follows a simple three step daily regimen:
1. Apply Cellurase™ Renewal Cream to targeted areas every night before bedtime. This formula contains high concentrations of Retinol, Vitamin C and Caffeine to reduce the appearance of cellulite by smoothing, firming and tightening your skin.
2. Apply Firming Moisturizer every morning before getting dressed. This product is designed to work in synergy with Cellurase™ Renewal Cream to enhance firming action and hydration while calming the skin. Superior results are achieved through the combination of the advanced Peptide Complex and Fruit Extract technologies with performance moisturizers and soothing botanicals such as Shea Butter, Green Tea, Aloe and Vitamin E.
3. Shower daily using Buff & Tone Body Wash, which combines exfoliating massage with high vitamin and amino rich Bladderwrack (Brown) Algae Extract along with Caffeine in the patented SalSphere™ delivery system infused into a bath sponge.
When using Resolution Cellulite System as recommended in conjunction with a series of FIT laser treatments for the most effective reduction in the appearance of cellulite, immediate tightening and lifting is visible. When using the Resolution Cellulite® System on its own, you can see modest improvement beginning as early as 2 weeks, although more defined results are evident after 4 to 6 weeks. Although complete and total elimination of cellulite is not a realistic expectation of this groundbreaking system, you’ll be wearing short shorts and thigh high bathing suits in a short time with the exciting, visible results that can be achieved. As with most cosmetic procedures, use of the Resolution Cellulite® System needs to be continued for maintenance of results.
LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic is pleased to offer the FIT skin tightening laser treatments and Resolution Cellulite® System as a package with special pricing in August 2014, or the Resolution Cellulite® System can be purchased individually. The FIT laser treatment is done in less than an hour in Dr. Chapman’s office located on Old Alabama Rd. in Johns Creek, GA, an ideal location for those living in Alpharetta, Sandy Springs, Cumming, Suwanne, Roswell and Johns Creek, as well as areas outside of the metro Atlanta area.
Christy Brinkley has always been beautiful and now that she’s reached the big 60, she’s still beautiful and seems to be age proof. While she swears that she’s never had plastic surgery, she has admitted to having some “special” facials. So what could those facials possibly be? Speculations are that it’s Ultherapy®.
During the Extra video, Dr. Anna Guanche remarks on how she thinks Christie Brinkley may have had Ultherapy®. Her reasoning stems from how tight her jaw line and neck are which are exactly the areas that Ultherapy does it’s best work to treat and keep the face looking young. After all, there’s not too many 60 year old that look like Christie does without having had something done.
So would Ultherapy® do the same for you? While the treatment results vary from patient to patient, one thing is for certain, you will experience tightening in the jowl and neck areas and in the brow area. A lot depends on how much damage has been done prior to your treatment. If you wait until there’s a lot to repair, you may not get quite the same result and it may require more than one treatment to keep the benefits on going. While one treatment achieves fantastic results, your face continues to age and may require some maintenance treatments down the road.
Dr. Jean Chapman at Laser Med Skin and Vein Center in Johns Creek, has appeared on television shows frequently and often suggests Ultherapy® for people just starting to show signs of aging. As Christie Brinkley remarked, she has had many of these “special” facials, meaning she has been using it as a tool for some time to keep her face looking young and tight, and very natural looking.
Ultherapy® Lift is the only FDA approved, non-surgical skin tightening treatment for reducing the jowl area as well as tightening the neck. These are usually the first places that show signs of aging on people. The procedure is safe and there’s no down time. Results are natural but the effect can be life changing. Image looking years younger without surgery. There’s many believing that it’s Christie’s secret!
Laser Med Skin & Vein Center is located in Johns Creek, GA and conveniently located for people living in Alpharetta, Cumming, Suwanee, Duluth, Roswell, Sandy Springs and areas all around Metro Atlanta. People actually come from all over because they have heard that Dr. Jean Chapman is the primary provider for Ultherapy® Lift in the Atlanta area and has the experience and results to back it up.
The really exciting thing about Ultherapy™ skin tightening treatment is that it does work! Dr. Jean Chapman at Laser Med Vein and Skin Clinic in Johns Creek says, “This is truly a remarkable treatment. It’s the best non-surgical face lift that I have ever seen. My patients are so pleased with the results and happy patients make me very happy. I am getting patients from all over the Atlanta area. They are hearing about me and my practice, and what wonderful results I’m achieving from the Ultherapy™ treatment, and they want to experience it for themselves.”
Ultherapy™ goes to work on those first telltale signs of aging – jowling at the jaw line or sagging skin on your neck. It’s for those patients who want to maintain their youthful appearance before these aging signs become really noticeable.
Ultherapy™ is a non-surgical, no downtime treatment FDA cleared to lift and tighten skin on your neck, lower face and brow area, actually helping to reverse these signs of aging for a more youthful, refined profile.
Ultherapy™ works similarly to an ultrasound. A smooth applicator is placed on your skin, which projects an image onto a screen. Low levels of focused heat are delivered at just the right depth below the skin, leaving the skin’s surface undisturbed.
Your skin then responds to the energy by triggering new collagen production. Firming and tightening occurs because collagen forms a sturdy structure for your skin, giving it a natural lift and firmness over time. This process will continue over the next 2 to 3 months after having the Ultherapy™ treatment. Final results are a more open look to the eyes and a more youthful appearance overall. Many patients also tell Dr. Chapman that they found other areas of their face and neck felt tighter and firmer.
The whole treatment is done in about an hour and is done in Dr. Chapman’s office located on Old Alabama Rd. in Johns Creek, GA. The location is ideal for those living in Alpharetta, Sandy Springs, Cumming, Suwanne, Roswell and Johns Creek. However, Dr. Jean Chapman attracts people from all over the Atlanta Metro area and is even seeing people from Macon, Augusta, Columbus and Savannah.
Don’t wait until aging takes hold of your face. You never need to look old with this amazing technology. Act now and maintain your youthful appearance. Call for your free consultation for Ultherapy™ 678-990-4900.
If you are a victim of spider and varicose veins, you know the embarrassment that comes at the very thought of wearing shorts or a skirt in the summer. No one wants to wear jeans in the summer in order to hide their spider and varicose veins. Endo Venus Laser Treatment is a brand new treatment that is available at LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic located in Johns Creek, serving the surrounding Atlanta Metro areas. What is so different about the Endo Venus Laser Treatment procedure, its recovery process, and overall success rate from other vein reduction procedures?
This treatment for spider and varicose veins uses laser energy that is guided by ultrasound methods to heal the condition in a minimally invasive manner. All Endo Venus Laser Treatment sessions performed at the LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic will be done by Dr. Jean Chapman, a board certified phlebologist.
Endo Venus Laser Treatment uses an optical fiber that Dr. Chapman inserts into the corrupted vein. Once this is done, the laser will shine in the vein. The vein will then contract, after which the optical fiber will be withdrawn. Even though minor complications such as: numbness around the thighs; deep venous thrombosis; and bruising can occur after the procedure is completed, the rate at which spider and varicose veins reappear is less than five percent.
The skin over the treatment area will first be anesthetized. Dr. Chapman will then make a very small incision, after which she will insert an optical fiber into the varicose vein. Ultrasound will be used to confirm the compromised varicose vein. The optical fiber will then be heated with a low energy. The heated energy from the optical fiber will cause the vein walls to contract, shrink and close. After this happens, no blood will be able to flow through that particular vein. The painless procedure takes between 30 to 60 minutes.
After the procedure, there is little to no postoperative pain due to the minimally invasive nature of the treatment. Minor soreness and aches can be treated with over-the-counter medications. Dr. Chapman will encourage you to walk around and resume your normal routine in order to speed up the recovery process.
No one should have to deal with spider and varicose veins. Endo Venus Laser Treatment can be just the thing to get you back into those shorts! Call or email the LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic. We would love to answer your questions and address all of your concerns.
As we age, our hormones fluctuate naturally. However, as this occurs, some people experience a significant drop of one specific hormone; they may even stop producing it altogether. One clear example of this phenomenon occurs in menopausal women, whose hormone levels drop in addition a number of other symptoms. One way to restore a normal balance of hormones advocated by Dr. Paul Cox of LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic is hormone replacement therapy. While hormone therapy is not for everyone, the therapy does have some significant health benefits.
Hormone replacement therapy is the process in which a physician uses lab testing to determine the hormone levels of a patient. The doctor then creates a plan to restore these hormones back to normal levels by providing you with hormone specific pills or injections. Bio-identical hormones are recommended for this step because they have the same molecular structure as the naturally occurring hormones in the body. This similarity reduces the chances of side effects for patients.
The goal of hormone replacement therapy is to improve a person’s quality of life. Having balanced hormone levels will allow patients to feel and function at their best. Hormone therapy aims to decrease the symptoms associated with a hormone imbalance such as fatigue, weight gain, and decreased sexual drive Hormone therapy may also postponse the onset of certain diseases associated with aging that result from the lack of a particular hormone. These include dementia, cardiovascular disease, and osteoporosis.
Atlanta-area residents who are experiencing a hormone imbalance should contact Dr. Paul Cox at LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic. Dr. Cox is a skilled physician with experience in providing hormone replacement therapy.
As warm weather has finally arrived and is here to stay, summer is right around the corner. The warmer and sunnier weather means wearing shorts and trips to the beach. However, for many people this also means showing off varicose veins or spider veins. Varicose veins are enlarged and twisted veins that are situated near the surface of the skin and are most common in the ankles and legs. They are caused by weakened veins and valves in the legs. Ordinarily, the one-way valves in veins maintain the flow of blood from legs up toward the heart. However, when the valves do not work properly, blood collects in the legs and pressure builds up. As a result, the veins become large, weak and twisted. They may appear as swollen and twisted clusters of purple or blue veins. These veins are occasionally surrounded by thin capillaries that are referred to as spider veins. These veins are also easily visible through the skin and are commonly seen on the legs, chest, or face.
Dr. Chapman treats both types of veins with a procedure called foam sclerotherapy. This is a procedure that involves an injection of a solution called sclerosant into the veins to improve the appearance of the veins. The sclerosant purposely damages the internal lining of the vein and causes blood clotting within it. Eventually, the body destroys the vein and it will disappear. The solution usually used for the procedure is called sodium tetradecyl sulphate (STS) and is used in different concentrations dependent upon the size of the vein being treated. Foam sclerotherapy involves making small amounts of the STS solution into foam and is used to treat varicose veins that cannot be treated with conventional methods. It is a simple procedure that can be performed in Dr. Chapman’s office. The procedure takes approximately 15 to 30 minutes, and the number of veins that are injected within one session may vary depending upon the size and location of the veins. After the procedure, patients will be able to drive home and resume their normal daily activities.
In general, spider veins respond in approximately three to six weeks, and larger varicose veins respond in about three to four months. Atlanta area residents who want to get rid of veins through sclerotherapy should contact Dr. Jean Chapman at LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic today for a consultation.
If you have a tattoo you regret, seeking assistance from Atlanta tattoo removal specialist Dr. Jean Chapman may be the solution for you. The process of removing a tattoo is done by targeting a laser at the tattooed area. The specialized laser will send short pulses of light into the skin, breaking up the ink and causing it to dissolve. After multiple sessions, the tattoo will fade and eventually disappear.
1) How long does removal take? The number of sessions required for removing a tattoo can vary on the placement, depth, density, and color of the tattoo. On average, you’ll need 6 – 10 sessions to see the best results. Although the sessions themselves are brief, you’ll need to schedule them 5 – 6 weeks apart so your skin has adequate time to heal.
2) Are all inks easy to remove? The ease of removal varies with each individual. In general, darker inks can be removed more easily, but different wavelengths of light are used to break up different colors of ink. For Atlanta tattoo removal patients, our staff at LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic will be able to give you a more precise estimate on how difficult your removal will be during your consultation.
3) What should I do to the area after a treatment? After each session, you should cover the area in antibiotic ointment 2 – 3 times a day and put a sterile dressing over it. Scabs, blisters, and red skin are common in the week following a session, and to prevent infection, it’s important not to pick at or scratch the area. Any discomfort can be treated with over-the-counter pain medication.
4) Is laser tattoo removal painful? You will likely experience mild to moderate discomfort while getting a tattoo removed. One common analogy is that it’s like have a rubber band snapped against the skin repeatedly. In some cases, an anesthetic gel or cream will be applied to the area before each session to minimize pain.
5) Will laser tattoo removal leave a scar? When up-to-date removal techniques are used, scarring is rare, but hyperpigmentation does sometimes occur. Practicing proper aftercare is important in minimizing scarring and discoloration. If you’re in the Atlanta area and would like to learn more about the specifics of tattoo removal, contact Dr. Jean Chapman for a consultation. At your appointment, Dr. Chapman can give you more of an idea about how many sessions you’ll need and what to expect from the process.
As Atlanta tattoo removal experts at LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic, we’re more than a little concerned that if you type ‘Can I Remove my Tattoo Myself?’ in the search bar, Google returns almost 7.5 million results. The short answer to this question is no but we’ll spend a few minutes answering any counterarguments you might have to the contrary.
The most common reason people want to find a non-medical option for removing a tattoo is that they want to save money. Professional, medical tattoo removal requires multiple sessions and while the procedures are not terribly expensive, people always try to find a cheaper method. However, all home remedy options for tattoo removal are either unsafe or ineffective. In fact the most common home remedy that shows up in search results for removing your tattoo at home involves salt. We won’t go into detail about that method here or link to any article that does because that method is wildly unsafe. In fact, many home remedies are very likely to leave you with a scar that is worse than the tattoo you want removed.
Perhaps the main reason to never attempt to remove your own tattoo is a simple one: your health. Many tattoo removal home remedies we have seen online leave your skin badly damaged, raw, and cut, making you vulnerable to infection. Simply using a bottle of rubbing alcohol does not mean that any raw or cut skin will be properly cleaned. From the specially designed tools used for the treatments to the recovery process for your treated area being overseen by a doctor, laser tattoo removal is safer, more effective, and healthier than any cost saving internet suggested remedy.
Laser tattoo removal at LaserMed and Skin and Vein Clinic is performed under the guidance of Dr. Jean Chapman. Using a laser to deliver high intensity light to the tattooed area, over the course of 5-8 treatment the tattoo usually fades until it is no longer visible. The price for a tattoo 3 inches in diameter done in blue or black ink is approximately $300 per treatment. While that price might seem high, it pales in comparison the risk of serious infection setting is or an unsightly scar setting in after an ill-considered home remedy tattoo removal.
For most people, getting a tattoo is a long-term decision. Unfortunately though, some people come to regret their tattoo and decide they want to have it removed. And at LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic, we can help. If you live in the Atlanta area, contact Dr. Jean Chapman today to schedule a consultation for your safe and effective laser tattoo removal.
