Pre-Baby Body with UltraShape and Velashape III

Lasermed Skin and Vein Clinic Can Help You Get Your Pre-Baby Body Back with UltraShape and Velashape III Body Contouring Treatments

Lasermed Skin and Vein Clinic Can Help You Get Your Pre-Baby Body Back with UltraShape and Velashape III Body Contouring Treatments

Any mom knows that having a child changes your life. A unique set of physical and emotional challenges are faced following a pregnancy and childbirth. In a recent M/A/R/C Research Survey, a sampling of 500 U.S. women who had a child within the last eight years showed

•   How these women felt about their body post-pregnancy;

•   What parts of their body are of most concern;

•   What causes these body image concerns and lifestyle changes these women have made since having their child.

LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic, located in Johns Creek on Old Alabama Rd., offers a number of services to help post baby moms feel and look more confident.

Unanticipated Body Changes

Nearly every woman who has had a child agrees that their body has been transformed to some degree, and the majority feel that the post-baby differences were not positive ones. Although doctors cite an average weight gain of about 30 pounds as typical during pregnancy, at least half of the women who have experienced having a child say they knew that potential for weight gain but were unprepared for the kinds of changes that actually occurred to their bodies, particularly after the child was born.

Overwhelmingly, a flabby stomach, referred to as “jelly belly”, was the primary post baby concern, exacerbated with stretch marks and cellulite. Apparently, jelly belly is a condition thought about on a daily basis, although  for many thinking about it was the only action taken. Oversized sweaters and sweatshirts became a staple wardrobe item to cover it up. Bikinis became a relic of the past – only 10% risked bikini exposure.

Post Baby Body Woes

Overall, almost three-quarters of new moms reported they did not feel physically attractive after having their baby, and most were either somewhat or very unhappy with their body. Of those women who were able to lose some or all of their pregnancy weight, close to 90% lamented they could not recover their pre-baby stomach, which was one of the features they liked best before pregnancy. In order to reach their ideal shape, on average it was reported that it would take losing two clothing sizes. The average weight women report wanting to lose was 36 pounds, although 20% felt a weight loss of between 11 and 20 pounds would put them at a pre-baby figure. However, there appear to be three main obstacles to body improvement: staying motivated; having energy; and finding the time to exercise.

UltraShape and Velashape III to the Rescue!

LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic has an answer to jelly belly despair with two body contouring procedures targeted at reduction of fat cells and skin tightening. These treatments are not a substitute for weight loss, but if you have reached a healthy weight and just can’t seem to lose that jiggle, you are potentially a great candidate for body contouring.  UltraShape can help you to lose unwanted fat cells in the belly region without surgery or pain, without incisions, anesthesia, or post-procedure downtime. Velashape III helps reduce the appearance of unsightly cellulite while simultaneously tightening skin laxity. Lasermed Skin and Vein Clinic has determined Velashape III™ to be a perfect complement to the fat reduction capabilities of UltraShape, enhancing the body contours of those “problem areas” through skin tightening and smoothing of underlying structural skin tissues. It is particularly effective after losing weight, or childbirth, where skin may be loose and drooping, allowing you to enjoy the body you once had pre-children. Contact LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic, serving the communities of Alpharetta, Sandy Springs, Cumming, Suwanee, Roswell and Johns Creek, as well as patients from all over the Atlanta Metro area and beyond, and schedule a consultation with Dr. Chapman to get your post-baby self in pre-baby shape! It’s one less thing to think about.

Shape Up by Summer

Springtime Friendly Procedures to Shape Up by Summer

LaserMed Recommends a Dynamic Duo for Complete Body Contouring. Target Reduction of Problem Fatty Areas With UltraShape While Reducing Skin Laxity and Cellulite With Velashape III.

Living a healthy lifestyle, consuming a balanced diet, and engaging in regular exercise are wonderful means of remaining physically fit and losing weight naturally, but two unappealing phenomenon occur as we age: skin loses its elasticity, and fat redistributes into “problem” areas which don’t respond to regular exercise and healthy eating. If you’ve recently lost weight, these issues may be particularly prominent.

Summer is right around the corner so if you’re having a hard time working off those stubborn inches after our cold winter, holiday parties, and Valentines Day and Easter holidays where sweets abound, talk to Dr. Chapman at LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic about her newest advanced laser technology procedures for non-invasive body contouring and cellulite reduction – UltraShape and Velashape. If varicose and spider veins are causing you to be reluctant to unveil your legs, sclerotherapy is Dr. Chapman’s recommendation to eliminate the roadmaps on your legs. And what about your upper body and face? Ultherapy!! It is one of the few decolléte and facial contour treatments that can be done in the summertime, as it does not require protection from the sun.

The Dynamic Shape Shifting Duo

UltraShape is a non-invasive fat removal procedure that can help to smooth out body contours and do away with unsightly bulges in problem areas for good. If you really want to be in shorts, midriff tops and bathing suit ready shape this upcoming summer season, the comprehensive duo of UltraShape for fat reduction and Velashape to smooth cellulite and tighten skin laxity may be the perfect all-embracing procedures for helping you get the results you want.

Why UltraShape? Many patients who are at a healthy weight are troubled by a few problem areas, such as extra fat around the bac of the waistline, stubborn fat around the hips and thighs, bra bulge, and a layer of fat on the abdomen. If you are dealing with similar problems, you may have already discovered that these areas have become resistant to diet and exercise. If you aren’t ready for liposuction surgery, UltraShape may be the solution.

Follow Up With VelaShape. First and only FDA cleared non-invasive medical solution for both cellulite and circumferential reduction, Velashape™ is a virtually painless non-surgical and non-invasive treatment which targets skin laxity and reduction in the appearance of cellulite. There is no downtime – you can return to your daily activities immediately following treatment. The precise heating of the targeted treatment area ensures a safe and effective treatment. The heating is combined with Endermologie™ type suction rollers as well as therapeutic deep infra-red energy to tighten and smooth.

Ultherapy – Warm Weather Friendly Above the Belly Rejuvenation Procedure

Does your face, brow, neck, decollete, or any combination of these areas seem to be aging you with sagging skin and loss of the pleasing contours of your youth? While many of the procedures for skin rejuvenation, including CO2 fractional laser facial resurfacing, chemical peels and microdermabrasion are best conducted when exposure to the sun is less likely in the fall and winter months, Ultherapy is perfectly comfortable in any season. This non-invasive process uses uplifting ultrasound energy to tone, tighten, and lift loose skin by stimulating the body’s natural healing process. Brow, eyes, neck and decollete can be revitalized. Immediate improvement is evident, and collagen continues to be laid down for up to 6 months.

Roadmaps Are For Summertime Road Trips

When you have roadmaps of varicose and spider veins on your legs, enjoying the “bareness” of summer activities may take a detour. Dr. Chapman recommends Sclerotherapy to the rescue to eliminate varicose veins and spider veins on the legs. Sclerotherapy involves an injection of a solution directly into the vein, which irritates the lining of the veins, causing it to stick together and gradually disappear. As it typically requires two treatments to eradicate the spider veins, at no more than four weeks apart, you can start the process right now and be bare-legged by the beginning of summer.

Problem Areas Perfected by Summer

As we head into the summer, the swimsuit, shorts and wedding season, there are very specific “problem areas” that people really start to think about such as sagging skin and loss of facial youthful contours, weight gain in specific areas that are unresponsive to diet and exercise, vein imperfections on the legs, and the summer nemesis –cellulite. Now is a great time to schedule procedures at LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic, serving the communities of Alpharetta, Sandy Springs, Cumming, Suwanee, Roswell and Johns Creek, as well as patients from all over the Atlanta Metro area and beyond, because you can expect to see full results come summer. All of these treatments improve the appearance of the face and body any time of yearLiving a healthy lifestyle, consuming a balanced diet, and engaging in regular exercise are wonderful means of remaining physically fit and losing weight naturally, but two unappealing phenomenon occur as we age: skin loses its elasticity, and fat redistributes into “problem” areas which don’t respond to regular exercise and healthy eating. If you’ve recently lost weight, these issues may be particularly prominent.

We all know the frustration. No matter how much you eat like a rabbit, torture yourself at the gym with crunches, planks and leg lifts, you still have stubborn little pouches of belly or back fat. Not to mention saddlebags on the thighs, love handles or a double-dip derriere. You can blame it on heredity, you can curse the “menopot”, you can chalk it up to age – no matter what reason applies, the truth is that research does support the fact that that stubborn subcutaneous fat shows resistance to both diet and exercise. While there are various non-invasive treatments on the market to “melt” or “freeze” away fat, as well as the more traditional liposuction techniques, UltraShape, the newest breakthrough technology by Syneron and Candela, can help eradicate that tenacious fat that workouts just don’t work away. And its not just for women – men benefit too.

UltraShape Uses Pulsed Focused Ultrasound Technology to Selectively Zap Stubborn Fat Cells and Help You Lose Inches With No Downtime

UltraShape Uses Pulsed Focused Ultrasound Technology to Selectively Zap Stubborn Fat Cells and Help You Lose Inches With No Downtime

How UltraShape Passed LaserMed’s Quality Control

Although LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic in Johns Creek, Georgia has been providing fat reduction and body contouring treatments such as Smartlipo for years with success, it has been Dr. Chapman’s desire to add completely non-invasive fat reducing device for a long time. Ultrashape is Dr. Chapman’s final selection following a four years quest to find the ONE DEVICE that proved to be the least invasive, with a comfortable no-downtime process, that is extremely effective, produces long-lasting results and results in the least complications. Dr. Chapman doesn’t believe in just reading reviews and manufacturer literature. Dr. Chapman and her staff have personally tried half a dozen non-invasive fat reducing devices over the past 4 years. Some devices were comfortable but didn’t give lasting results, whereas others were very painful experiences. One device even gave Dr. Chapman severe bruising, numbness and muscle pain for 6 weeks!!! UltraShape was the one technology that scored A-1 on all the critical checkmarks for best comfort, best results and least complications. Final approval goes to UltraShape!!

Why is UltraShape Different Than Other Procedures?

UltraShape is a Painless and Comfortable Procedure With No Downtime.
UltraShape is a Painless and Comfortable Fat Reduction Procedure With No Downtime.

First and foremost, UltraShape is not like anything out there. UltraShape is the first and only FDA-cleared, non-invasive body shaping device for selective fat cell destruction. The UltraShape procedure uses focused, pulsed ultrasound energy to target and instantly destroy stubborn fat. Unlike liposuction, UltraShape is nonsurgical – it does not involve incisions, anesthesia, or result in post-procedure downtime. And unlike other fat reduction procedures that use heat or freeze fat, UltraShape is painless and leaves no visible signs of treatment. The procedure delivers ultrasound energy directly into the stubborn fat below the skin’s surface, where rapidly changing pressure waves create vapor cavities in the fat cells. This stresses the fat cell membranes, causing them to rupture—all while leaving the surrounding skin, nerves, and blood vessels unharmed. Post treatment, the only visible aftereffects are smooth, contoured results. You can hit LaserMed’s office, then zoom on to zumba class the same day.

To date, over 300,000 people have enjoyed the benefits of UltraShape. In fact, it’s been voted the best body contouring treatment in New Beauty’s 2014 Beauty Choice Awards by leading experts, editors, and New Beauty readers. This is backed up by a clinical study where 94% of UltraShape recipients were satisfied with their results. Although individual results vary, it was found possible that you can lose inches up to two clothes sizes, and results may be visible within two weeks after the first treatment, although a series of three treatments is manufacturer recommended. However make note: UltraShape is not intended for major weight loss, and findings show that it works best for people who maintain a healthy exercise diet lifestyle.

What are The Benefits of UltraShape?

Look at the key reasons why UltraShape is the latest non-invasive alternative that’s clinically proven to reduce localized fat deposits and body circumference.
• Clinically proven pulsed (non-thermal) focused ultrasound technology for instant, selective and permanent fat cell destruction;
• Delivers consistent fat reduction throughout the treatment area – no irregularities;
• Avoids bruising, swelling or downtime with pulsed focused ultrasound technology;
• Comfortable and simple, “walk-in, walk-out” procedure;
• Long-lasting measurable lost inches results within just a few weeks;
• High patient satisfaction with no reported side effects;
• 3 treatments recommended, scheduled 2 weeks apart, to get long-lasting results!

Invest Your Tax Return on Improvements to Your Health, Beauty and Well-Being

Invest Your Tax Return on Improvements to Your Health, Beauty and Well-Being

For most of us taxpayers, preparing your tax return is often one of the most dreaded necessities in life. But hopefully there is a benefit to all the hassle and stress that accompanies the filing of your taxes. And that benefit is a lump sum tax refund, with the average estimated return around $3,000. If you’ve been trying to scrimp and save up during the year for a little “something” just for you, and haven’t been able to get it all together, a tax return represents a nice, big windfall. Although there are always good solid ways to spend the refund – paying off credit cards, home improvements, an IRA, or savings options, a vacation or electronics? But what if it could go toward enhancing your appearance and boosting self-confidence, which is a long term gain? If you’ve been considering treating yourself to a cosmetic treatment with that tax refund, is recommended to give some serious thought as to how best to use that money. If you feel happy about yourself, does it really matter if your backsplash is the latest glass tile trend?

Long Term Gains

We’re not talking radical procedures for a total and often unrecognizable transformation. At LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic, we offer predominantly non-invasive, non-surgical procedures to improve a problem area or condition that has been keeping you from feeling and looking your best. Is your chin doubling up on itself? Are you reluctant to wear anything shorter than capris in the heat of summer because of varicose and spider veins? Does it take valuable time every day to try and hide acne scarring or sun damage only to see your reflection and it’s still visible through layers of make-up? Are your beautiful eyes disappearing under folds of draping skin? LaserMed suggests procedures that allow you to still be yourself – only better. And there’s no more valuable investment than one that improves your self-esteem and ultimately quality of life. Think about it – in 10 years will that $3000 make a huge difference in a mutual fund or stocks the way the market goes up and down? Or in 10 years will you be able to look back and say, “I think that was the best decision I ever made. I’ve felt so good and I really looked so much younger”.

How Do I Get the Most From My Return?

Recent 2014 statistics indicate that of those people receiving a tax return, approximately 30% spent all or part of it on cosmetic procedures. Depending on the return amount, your age, health of your skin, issues to be addressed and/or areas identified for improvement and desired outcome, LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic shares some recommendations on how you can put your refund to work for you!

Non-Invasive, Short Term, Targeted Area Treatments for Smaller Returns:

Tax refund a little less than you expected? Have you been blessed with a wonderful complexion but have extremely strong facial muscles so defined lines are etched between your brows, on the sides of your eyes or on the forehead? Do you see a puppet looking back at you because of nasal labial folds or marionette lines? Is your skin looking dull and flaky? Or do you just need a little boost for a special occasion, or a well deserved hour of pampering? Here are some choices to give you a “photoshopped” advantage with just a few minor changes.

Botox or Dysport – Reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles between the brows, crow’s feet alongside eyes, and forehead. Dysport can also be used to help reduce the lip pursing movements which contribute to lip lines.
Injectable Dermal Fillers – Restylane, Sculptra or Voluma Ultra
Chemical Peels – Vi Peel or a Custom Peel
Intense Pulse Light (IPL is often called Photofacial) treats pigmented lesions, redness or broken capillaries (2 or 3 sessions)
LaserFacial – Mild acne scar or rosascea laser treatment series (3 or 4 sessions)
Sclerotherapy – Minor Spider Veins

Average Returns Score Deeper Epidermis and Laser Treatments with Long Lasting Results

Did you receive a tax return around the national average? Good for you. If you are in the age group where skin laxity and gravity have become partners, and are seeking a solution to tighten, uplift and stimulate collagen product for select areas, including your face, brows, eyes, neck, thighs, or decollete? What about those stubborn little bulgy pockets of fat that just won’t budge despite diet and exercise? Is your entire face at that point where an all over revitalization is required? Is unwanted hair or unsightly veins on various parts of your body making you self-conscious, and always wishing it was winter? Or do you suffer from tattoo regret? Whatever your specific body vexation, LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic can invest your tax return funds for your maximum benefit.

Fractionated CO2 Laser: For a total facial rejuvenation, Fractionated CO2 Laser treatment evens out skin color, and refines skin texture, reduces melasma, softens fine lines and wrinkles, and levels out acne and surgical scars. You’ll look glowing and refreshed.

Medical Micro-Needling with Growth Factor: This minimally invasive non-surgical procedure for targeted areas of facial rejuvenation involves the use of a micro-needling device to create a controlled skin injury. The body then responds by stimulating the production of collagen, which improves the appearance of common skin conditions such as scar revision, fine line correction, texture improvement, as well as lifting and tightening the skin. The infusion of the growth factor serum penetrates into the skin for a boost of good healing proteins that promote cell regeneration.

Tattoo Removal: Removing a tattoo uses a shortwave light beam laser. The color in the tattoo absorbs the light and begins to break up the ink which is harmlessly removed by the body’s immune system.

FIT Cellulite Treatment and Body Contouring: A radio frequency procedure which targets laxity and sagginess on the body for instant, temporary tightening and lifting of the treated area with no downtime. Also increases collagen and elastin production to combat the appearance of cellulite on hips, thighs and buttocks. Add the Resolution Cellulite System to maintain the reduced appearance of cellulite.

Sclerotherapy: If spider or varicose veins on your legs make you dread warm weather, then Sclerotherapy is the answer. The process involves the use of a series of very tiny injections of a solution directly into the affected veins. This therapeutic liquid solution causes the affected veins to first seal shut, then collapse and slowly fade away.

Endovenous Laser Ablation (CTEV): This minimally invasive technology represents the most recent advancement in treating varicose veins.

Laser Hair Reduction: Remove that unwanted hair by means of exposure to laser that destroys the hair follicle. A series of treatments is required due to the hair growth cycle. Price varies by area, so small areas such as upper lip, center of chest (female) or chin may be able to be completed even if your refund amount is below the national average.

Blast fat cells with SmartLipo. Contour your arms, thighs, saddlebag areas, tummy, hips, muffin top, even neck.

Hit the Jackpot Return

In the lucky event that your refund is abundant, you can maximize the your potential by combining several procedures, or going for the gold level Ultherapy packages: the Mid/Lower Face & Neck which includes the area from the cheekbones to the collar bone; the Full Face, which includes the Mid/Lower Face and eye areas; or the all-inclusive Full Face With Neck, which encompasses your eyes down to the collarbone. It’s like a full facelift without a single suture or scar.

Using your refund to invest in your body and your health is priceless and can have a major impact on your life. You won’t have any regrets once you see the return on your investment. Sign up for our monthly newsletter where we share reduced pricing on several of our favorite procedures as well as season- specific specials. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Chapman to discuss your cosmetic improvement priorities so you can maximize the return on your tax return. And join us at our new location convenient at 2880 Old Alabama Road, Suite 300, Johns Creek, GA 30022 for our upcoming Valentine’s Open House on Thursday, February 18th, at 6:30 PM. Dr. Chapman will be discussing Ultherapy, Sculptra and Medical Micro-Needling, followed by complimentary private consultations.

Start Your Leg Enhancement This Winter

Beautiful Legs By Spring. Enhance Your Legs This Winter With Varicose and Spider Vein Removal and Cellulite Reduction Treatments

Have Beautiful Legs By Spring. Enhance Your Legs This Winter With Varicose and Spider Vein Removal and Cellulite Reduction Treatments

We’ve been having some nasty weather in the Atlanta area, and we’re pretty sure you haven’t been wearing shorts and mini-skirts outside. But once January and February are crossed off the calendar, and the daffodils start to bloom, you’ll be thinking Spring. And that means that Spring Break at the beach is just around the corner. So now is the perfect time to start thinking about doing away with those varicose or spider veins. Lasermed Skin and Vein Clinic knows that right now you probably are more at ease with those unsightly veins because they are safely tucked under pants, heavy tights, and long skirts, but for most of you we’d guess you are self-conscious about them in public once the leggings come off.

Why Should I Eliminate Varicose Veins?

Varicose veins, in addition to the negative aesthetic perspective, can potentially become painful and lead to more serious health issues as a result of inflammation of varicose veins, including:

  • Throbbing, burning, aching and fatique
  • Venous leg ulcers
  • Deep vein thrombosis
  • Spider veins
  • Poor circulation

The skin protecting the varicose veins is also vulnerable to injury from an exterior force, leading to a ruptured vein. Significant bruising and blood loss may result.

What Leg Enhancement Options Are Available?

Treat Unsightly Varicose Veins During the Winter for Beautiful Legs Come Spring

Treat Unsightly Varicose Veins During the Winter for Beautiful Legs Come Spring

At LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic in Johns Creek, we offer a range of innovative, effective and safe treatments for the removal of varicose and spider veins, and reduction of visible cellulite. We use the advanced technology Cooltouch CTEV device which emits 1320nm wavelength laser beams and heat the water content in the vein walls rather than blood cells. Other devices that have shorter wavelength heat too much heating of the blood cells and caused severe bruising and discomfort as well as longer healing time. Sclerotherapy, which is injections of a gentle solution using an acupuncture-sized needle into the blood vessels, can be used for less invasive varicose veins and spider vein treatment. This irritates the inside of the vessel and causes them to shrink and slowly disappear.

Reduce the Appearance of Cellulite With FIT and Before You Expose Your Legs This Year

Reduce the Appearance of Cellulite With FIT and Before You Expose Your Legs This Year

To combat the appearance of cellulite on thighs, buttocks and hips, LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic recommends a series of FIT laser treatments in conjunction with the groundbreaking new Resolution Cellulite® System creams and cleanser to maintain the FIT skin tightening effects and minimize the bumpy appearance of cellulite.

These effective and time efficient treatments can produce optimal results, with little to minimal bruising and discomfort, and by targeting your recovery during the winter months, by the time you’re ready to ditch your cover ups, your legs will be too.

Why is Winter Better for Leg Enhancement Treatments?

LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic stands at the forefront of treatment options for beautiful and healthy legs.  Dr. Chapman feels winter is the perfect time to start your summer leg shape up regimen, which includes treating varicose veins, spider veins and cellulite, for a number of reasons.

Maximum Effectiveness May Require Multiple Treatment Sessions. Usually more than one treatment is required for reduction of veins and cellulite, so the entire process may take between 2 to 4 months for the full effects of the treatment to be visible, although immediate reduction of veins may be evident directly after treatment. Using sclerotherapy, spider and flat blue veins require 1-2 treatments with injection therapy. Varicose veins typically need 1-2 treatments using sclerotherapy for total resolution. Laser technology may necessitate 3 or more sessions for full eradication, depending on severity and amount of veins affected, although the procedure is more effective and is considered more comfortable. Laser treatments should be scheduled between 2 to a maximum of 4 weeks apart. When using Resolution Cellulite System as recommended in conjunction with a series of FIT laser treatments for the most effective reduction in the appearance of cellulite, immediate tightening and lifting is visible, although a series of treatments is recommended for the best outcome, approximately 2 weeks apart. Because of the time factor, Dr. Chapman recommends you start now.

Winter Wardrobes Camouflage any Bruising or Discoloration. After varicose vein reduction therapy, your legs will not look too pretty for a few weeks. The veins tend to look redder and bruised, although usually the veins significantly disappear during the procedure. Bruising usually resolves after a week. With larger varicose veins, the treated veins will harden after treatment, and then become softer and recede from visibility. With particularly large veins, there may be some brown staining for several months. This is a normal and temporary result of iron pigments that remain from the red blood cells decomposing and being carried away by your own immune system.

Cover Up Compression Stockings. The first day after laser varicose vein treatment, an ace bandage will encase the treated area. Compression stockings are then typically worn for a period of 2 or more days following varicose vein removal. These are easy to conceal under cool weather clothes. Why are compression stockings recommended after laser varicose vein treatment? In addition to aiding in the healing process, they further reduce any risk of deep vein thrombosis and reduce the degree of bruising, inflammation, swelling and blood clots.

Cooler Weather Benefits The Healing Process. You may not be aware of this, but warm weather often places additional strain on your veins. If your circulation system is disposed to vein complications or weakened by varicose veins, exposure to heat should be avoided when possible. Removal of varicose veins in the winter provides adequate time to heal prior to experiencing the effects of warm weather on your veins.

You Will Be Ready for Leg Baring Fashions. If you have been uncomfortable in summertime styles which bare your legs from here to way up there, taking care of your vein issues and diminishing cellulite during the winter will give confidence to exchange sweat pants for shorts.

Comprehensive Vein Therapy at LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic

The first step in successfully treating any vein condition is finding a physician with the experience and expertise in phlebology, the field of medicine dealing with disorders of the venous system. LaserMed’s Dr. Jean Chapman is board certified by the American College of Phlebology. After conducting a complete physical examination of the condition Dr. Chapman will recommend the treatment that will best address the vein and/or cellulite conditions you want to resolve. So schedule your consultation appointment now. Believe it or not, swimsuit season is not too far away and you want to look awesome!

Healthy Skin Care – A Team Approach

Maintaining Healthy Skin is Not Out of Reach with These Healthy Skin Care Tips

Maintaining Healthy Skin is Not Out of Reach with These Healthy Skin Care Tips and Expertise From Dr. Chapman

November is National Healthy Skin Month. At LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic, we recognize that healthy skin is more than just applying products and taking restorative action, although these promote and support an existing healthy skin system. At LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic, we focus primarily on cosmetic dermatology relative to one’s external appearance, but also are dedicated to the fundamental  concept that it takes a team – Dr. Chapman, her staff, and yourself – to promote, support and maintain a beautiful and healthy skin system.  After all, your skin is your body’s immune system’s first line of defense, so you need to take care of it. It actually is the body’s largest organ, spanning approximately 21 square feet and weighing about 9 pounds on an average sized adult. Your skin is highly dependent on the circulation system for growth, maintenance and repair, and as a result, nature has designed more than 11 miles of blood vessels serving the skin system.

What is National Healthy Skin Month?

The month of November, for many parts of the country, represents an introduction to months of cold winter weather.  The intent of the designation of National Healthy Skin Month is to raise awareness about the functions of the skin and the importance of keeping skin hydrated, protected and healthy on a continuous basis, no matter what the weather. The most important things Dr. Chapman recommends to prevent skin damage, reduce signs of aging and protect one of the most vital organs of the body  on an year-round basis include protection from sun damage, annual skin exams, eating healthy, staying hydrated, using appropriate skin care products, and other steps that can keep skin looking clear, smooth and youthful.

Healthy Skin Tips

Protect, Protect, Protect: No matter what month it is, or what the temperature may be, or even if the sun is out in full force or hidden behind a cloud cover, application of a sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 30 is crucial to skin health. Although the sun is typically stronger in the summer, the sun’s rays can still be extremely damaging in winter months, particularly when reflected off of snow and at higher altitudes. In the winter, depending on climate, a combination moisturizer with SPF protection may be sufficient.

What You Put in Your Mouth Reflects on Your Skin: Feeding your skin from the inside is just as important as topical protection. A nourishing diet rich in vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants is essential in maintaining skin that’s “in the pink”. This includes consuming foods containing Omega 3s, healthy fats, whole grains and B Vitamins, to name a few. Fruits and vegetables, particularly tomatoes, which boast high levels of lycopene, a strong anti-oxidant that helps block UV penetration are especially important. As well, since skin is comprised of proteins, sources of lean proteins are vital to skin’s nutrition.

Moisturize: Hydration is key to robust skin. The type of moisturizer used in your daily skin regimen should be modified as the weather changes from warm to cold, and the use of artificial heat can dry out the skin. Or by location if you live in a year-round warm climate, products may need to be varied depending on the level of humidity or dryness. No matter what season, moisturizer should be applied to your whole body in the a.m. and before going to bed. A creamier consistency product well in winter months in areas with colder temperatures as it helps act as a barrier to harsh winds and cold works, whereas in the warmer months a more lightweight water based product may help keep pores clear. Also look for products containing humectants, including glycerin or alpha-hydroxy acids that attract moisture to your skin. It is important to differentiate between consistency and coverage – using multiple coats of moisturizer to alleviate dry skin may result in clogged pores, as opposed to using a creamier product which compensates for dry conditions.

Lips are Important Too: Your lips are very susceptible to sun damage, so avoid potential for chapping and vertical lines around the mouth by protecting them with a lip balm containing sunscreen. Apply continuously, especially in dry conditions. Use a moisturizing lip balm product at night before bed. And when you do feel your lips are dry – resist the temptation to lick them – the evaporation only makes them drier.

TLC for Your Extremities: Feet and hands don’t contain as many oil glands as your face, and other parts of your body that may be exposed to either summer sun or cold winter weather, so they can become dry and chapped very quickly. Even though small, cracks and splits in the skin of the hands or feet can be very painful, and may take a long time to heal if not cared for. The best course of action is to use mild cleansers and avoid alcohol based hand sanitizers which cause further dehydration. In winter, wear gloves and always use sunscreen on your hands and don’t forget the feet, especially in summer!!

Shorten Your Showers:  When it’s cold it’s hard to want to get out of a nice, hot shower. But the hot water is also a factor in creating dry skin, and can actually slow down your circulatory system. If you can’t live without a very hot shower, make it a quick one. Cooler shower temperatures have been shown to increase blood circulation between organs and skin, which in turn provides more nutrients to the skin and actually help assists in keeping you warm.

Humidify When Dry:  In the winter, artificial heat tends to suck the moisture from the air, which contributes to dry skin. Using a humidifier set at 30-50% humidity in the rooms most often occupied, particularly the bedroom, can help prevent arid indoor conditions.

Hydrate for Health: Summer, winter, spring or fall – drink 8 glasses of water a day says Dr. Chapman.

Manage Stress: Stress can degrade all aspects of your life, and has been found to contribute to premature aging and skin problems like acne. Find ways to de-stress during the day, take a deep breath, sip some tea, read a magazine, look away from your phone, tablet or computer, take a brief walk – it will refresh your mind, body and skin!

The Importance of Skin Exams: It cannot be emphasized enough – check your skin every month for changes in your skin such as suspicious mole, rashes and other lesions that could potentially indicate an illness or skin cancer. Schedule an annual full body skin exam with your dermatologist on an annual basis, even if you haven’t found anything of concern, as there may be some areas that are difficult for you to view.

Dr. Chapman is an expert at implementing procedures and services to help your skin look younger, even toned, more supple, tighter, and lifted, but YOU have to provide healthy skin for her to work with. Aging and the associated changes to your skin is a natural process, but by implementing these simple skin care tips to keep your skin in ultimate condition, together, you and LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic can create beautiful skin. Medical Micro-Needling for Hair Growth

microneedlingHair loss due to male pattern baldness affects, at some point, approximately 80% of the adult male population. And women can also experience hair loss. But hair loss is not a conscious choice. The emotional aspects of living with hair loss can be stressful (for either gender) as we live in a culture that views hair as a sign of youth, attractiveness, and good health. Attitudes towards baldness have slowly been changing, aka. “bald is beautiful”, focus on the impacts of cancer in books, on TV and in movies, and a recent trend for some male celebrities to choose to shave their heads – for a role, for an impact, for a certain look – although the majority of these celebs have the option to let it grow back. However, it is doubtful most people would voluntarily opt for permanent hair loss.

In short, living with hair loss can be difficult, and past approaches to hair restoration have resulted in unnatural looking rows or clusters of hair. No one consciously wants to look like they have a crop growing on their head, or like the Little Rascals character Alfalfa. The recent advent of medical micro-needling for hair restoration, using a specially formulated growth serum, now provides a viable option for natural looking hair re-growth.

Why Does Hair Loss Occur?

Science has disclosed that the health of the scalp significantly affects hair growth. In addition to hair loss due to heredity, hair follicles can be damaged by chemical processing, a poor diet, stress, environmental hazards, chlorine, hormone imbalance, menopause, childbirth, medication, and disease. Hair follicles have resting and growing phases, and lacking proper nutrients the resting stages increase while their growing phases decrease. DHT is a hormone which undermines the absorption of vital nutrients required for healthy hair follicles. It is a factor underlying hair thinning, resulting in a damaged or miniaturized hair follicle, which impacts the ability to efficiently produce hair, and eventually the hair follicle dies and the hair falls out.

The Medical Micro-Needling Solution to Hair Regeneration

Medical micro-needling is a recent innovation used for collagen induction and initiation of cellular regeneration by inflicting a controlled skin injury. Precision-engineered stainless steel micro-needles penetrate the top layers of the scalp without causing damage. This penetration allows a much higher absorption of the growth serum element Dr. Chapman uses to treat hair loss and re-grow hair – enhancing its therapeutic effect. There are several other benefits to medical micro-needling of the scalp to stimulate hair growth.

•   Medical micro-needling the scalp removes the sebum around the hair follicles and reduces DHT from the hair papilla. By removing the sebum, and reducing DHT in the sebum, the blood supply increases and the hair follicles are therefore exposed to more nutrients for absorption.

•   Stimulates the skin’s own renewal mechanism by rushing healing agents and collagen to the hair follicles.

•   Increase hydration and promote elimination of toxins.

•   Improve elasticity and resilience.

•   Hair growth patterns are natural and density gradually increases over time. No more “bald today – hairy tomorrow” effects.

What Does the Hair Growth Serum Do?

It has been found that there are very specific peptides (proteins) that are involved in the communication process between cells and tissues. These proteins, called growth factors, regulate the growth cycle of a cell, and its replication and regeneration mechanisms. A serum has been designed explicitly to restore the normal growth cycle of hair follicles, comprised of growth factors specifically chosen to achieve maximum penetration and provide the greatest possible benefits to the scalp and follicle.  Dr. Chapman uses this growth serum simultaneously with the micro-needling process to treat both men and women. There are no known side effects.

What is the Recommended Treatment?

Dr. Chapman initially recommends a series of one treatment per week for 5 weeks. Following a “rest period” of about 2 weeks, she will re-evaluate the condition and results, and a second series of weekly treatments may be recommended. Hair growth does continue over time following the treatments, so the final outcome is not immediate. A refresher treatment may be warranted annually. The Magic of Medical Micro-Needling

It has been found that photo-aging is attributed to free radicals, resulting in permanent skin damage caused by environmental factors such as exposure to the sun’s UV rays, chemicals in foods, pollution. Photo-aging accounts for about 90% of the perceived signs of skin aging, including wrinkles, roughness, laxity, hyperpigmentation and general thinning. Unfortunately, this damage does not self-repair like a cut or bruise – this is the time to provide assistance from a skin rejuvenation technique to restore the youthful appearance.

What Does Medical Micro-Needling Do?

Medical micro-needling is one of the latest innovations in fractional microdermal skin needling used for collagen induction and initiation of cellular regeneration. It is a minimally-invasive non-surgical procedure for facial rejuvenation that involves the use of a micro-needling device to create controlled skin injury. This treatment revitalizes, lifts and tightens the skin and improves the appearance of common skin conditions including:

•  Acne and other scars

•  Stretch marks

•  Photo-aging

•  Fine lines

•  Uneven skin texture and complexion

•  Discoloration

The objective of Medical Micro-needling is to rapidly create a pattern of micro channels in the treatment area as the device is held perpendicular to the treatment area and moved over the skin. The pens can be adjusted for speed and needle depth for proper treatment on different areas of the face or body, and the device pierces the skin rapidly so the patient feels less pain and the skin is not torn. The controlled injury introduced by the micro channels in the skin causes blood, platelets and collagen to rush to the site to repair the topical damage, resulting in a significant increase the production of collagen and elastin. In addition, new capillaries are formed. Micro channels also enhance the skin’s ability to absorb topical serums, including vitamins, skin lighteners or growth factor serums, when applied during or immediately after the procedure, which helps leave skin smoother, fresher, and more uniform.

Which Topical Serum Option is Right For Me?

Dr. Chapman offers two levels of topical serums with Medical Micro-needling treatments. The normal protocol uses a combination of Vitamin C Serum with a B5 gel. The Vitamin C supplies a boost of anti-oxidants and the B5 gel provides a boost of hydration.

A growth factor serum may be integrated into the process when photo-aging damage from sun exposure indicates a significant decline in dermal collagen content, and a decreased rate of collagen production. Studies have indicated that this damage is directly related to decreased growth factor production. Growth factors have the primary function of activating cellular activities and are comprised of proteins that bind to receptors on the cell membrane surface. In simple terms, a decline in the number of fibroblast cells, which are considered the “laborers” in the skin, results in a reduction of collagen production and simultaneously decreases the concentration levels of growth factors. It is estimated that skin loses around 1% of the number of fibroblast cells and 1% of its thickness per year, and even more when sun exposure is elevated.

How Many Treatments Do I Need?

Patients typically require a series of treatments to see the complete result, although improvement may be seen after a single treatment. The number of Medical Micro-needling sessions depends on the individual skin condition. Three to four treatments may be needed for moderate acne scars. Other scarring may require up to 5-6 sessions. In the case of wrinkles, sun damage and aging skin conditions, one or two refresher treatments are recommended annually. A minimum of three weeks is recommended between two treatments as it takes that long for new natural collagen to form. The length of time necessary to complete the procedure depends on the condition, typically between 10 to 60 minutes to complete the procedure.

Medical Microneedling is appropriate when facial rejuvenation is recommended, yet a laser procedure or peel may not be appropriate. Schedule an appointment with Dr. Chapman at our new location, located on Old Alabama Rd. in Johns Creek, GA. The location is ideal for those living in Alpharetta, Sandy Springs, Cumming, Suwanee, Roswell and Johns Creek, as well as patients from all over the Atlanta Metro area and beyond, to determine if this procedure is the best approach for your individual concern.

Create a Fall Skin Care Plan

Where did summer go? All of a sudden there are leaves on the ground, it’s nippy at night, and the days are shorter. Mums and pumpkins are everywhere. As we don our sweaters and long pants, there is something very important to remember this time of year. Just because our extremities are covered, it doesn’t mean we can forget about our skin care routine. Although in the fall the sun, hot weather and chlorinated water may not be the major factors in drying out our skin, fall and winter introduce their own special ways to create dry, flaky skin.

In the Fall We Need to Change Up Our Skin Care Regimen to Avoid Dry, Flaky Skin.

In the Fall We Need to Change Up Our Skin Care Regimen to Avoid Dry, Flaky Skin.

Don’t Forget Sunscreen: Even though you may not be lying beside a swimming pool or luxuriating on a beach, you CANNOT forget the sunscreen. Watching a football game on metallic stands with the afternoon sun blazing down is just as damaging to your skin, despite the fact you may be wrapped in a blanket and drinking hot cocoa like your life depended on it. Bottom line, sunscreen is a daily essential, so keep it handy. At a minimum, use a daily moisturizer with SPF 25 or 30 and reapply throughout the day. Dr. Chapman recommends Tizo or Neova Sun Protection products.

Switch Out Your Body Cleanser:  In the fall, we need to swap out those fruity, sweet clear shower gels we like in the summer for a creamier shower body wash that is hydrating but still has anti-bacterial cleansing properties. Indulge in a spicy pumpkin, winter-fresh, nutty or vanilla cookie scented wash. The same concept applies to your facial cleanser too.

Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate:  Exfoliation is not just a warm weather hobby. Indoor heating, windy conditions, and cold weather can chap your skin, so exfoliation is essential for your moisturizing and anti-aging products to be most effectively absorbed. Exfoliate at least 3 times a week. You don’t need to scrub to exfoliate, instead of using toxin and chemical-packed scrubs, exfoliate naturally using fruit based scrubs, or an oil based scrub. Sounds crazy, but certain oils are actually good for your skin – it’s the sebum produced by your oil glands that causes the problems.

Moisturize Every Day: Dr. Chapman cannot stress it enough, moisturize every day to keep dry skin away. When your skin is dry but still moist after a shower or bath is an optimum time to apply lotion. It seals in the moisture already absorbed into your skin.

Keep Your Skin Care Routine Simple: Overuse of products is the biggest mistake people make in their skincare regime. Layering one upon the other, each one with different ingredients, can be irritating, and some ingredients cancel out each other’s benefits. What do you need for beautiful fall skin? A simple cleanser, sunscreen, a moisturizer, and a retinoid or retinol. Add in a gentle exfoliating product three days a week, and you are set. The simpler your skincare regimen, the more likely you are to stick with it. We carry a variety of product lines that offer the right skin care choices for you.

Analyze Your Skin: Used to have oily skin in the summer – always had a little “dew” around the nose and forehead, and now you now longer have to blot? Or is your normal skin feeling drier and flaking a bit? Or your normally dry skin extremely tight and chapped? With the transition of seasons, it is common that skin reacts to different elements and changes in response. You may need to switch some of your summer staple products. Schedule an appointment with Dr. Chapman to establish a revised skin care regime.

In addition to exfoliating, you need to maintain that glowing skin with facials, peels and other skin freshening, tightening and collagen production boosting treatments that we offer at LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic. Skin Rejuvenation to Sparkle for the Holidays

Labor Day Weekend has come and gone, Halloween candy is on the store shelves, and believe it or not, it’s almost the season for turkey dinners, stealing kisses under the mistletoe and champagne toasts for the New Year. For many of us, during the summer our skin has become weathered, dull, spotty, dry, and creased from being subjected to so many damaging elements: sun, glare, wind, sand, chlorine, bug spray, smoke from the barbeque, and a whole lot more. In addition, other factors besides environmental stresses may be at work to cause our faces to lose a youthful look over time: repetitive muscle action, loss of facial volume and loss of elasticity. You may ask, how do I renew, rejuvenate & repair my gradually aging, weather-worn summer skin for a healthy, glowing new appearance before the holidays? Dr. Jean Chapman suggests that RIGHT NOW is the best time to start facial rejuvenation procedures to look your sparkly best for the holiday season.

Why now you ask…the answer is that in addition to treating immediate concerns, recommended treatments such as Ultherapy and Sculptra, which promote healthy cell turnover in the skin, resulting in collagen production to lift, tighten and increase volume, often take between 3 to 6 months before optimal results are visualized. Wrinkle inhibiting injectables such as Botox and Dysport can be received closer to the holiday season, but remember that Botox typically takes at least 2 weeks to fully immobilize the muscles, and the little needle pricks take a few days to disappear. As well, injectable dermal fillers may cause some bruising and swelling, so it’s not wise to wait until the day before a party to have a cosmetic procedure and expect your party face to be WOW.

How Do I Get My Sparkle ON?

The goal is to reinvigorate your skin and appearance without making your appearance any less uniquely you, so you glow from the inside out. The process of getting your sparkle on incorporates several different objectives achieved with a variety of cosmetic dermatology treatments: stimulated collagen production; improved skin texture and tone; reduced fine lines and wrinkles; targeted plumping and tightening, increased elasticity and lifting; cleared skin; and a brighter more luminous complexion.

What is the Recommended Sequence for Treatments

For the optimum results, depending on age, skin condition, heredity, and problem area, Dr. Chapman recommends undertaking the four following treatments to recover from the summer, according to this 3 to 6 month timeline.

Ultherapy Non-invasive process uses uplifting ultrasound energy to tone, tighten, and lift loose skin by stimulating the body’s natural healing process. Brow, eyes, neck and decollete can be revitalized. Immediate improvement is evident, and collagen continues to be laid down for up to 6 months

3 to 6 Months prior to event. Sustained improvement is seen for up to six months after initial treatment. Schedule by September or early October for optimal rejuvenation effects.

Sculptra A series of injections into the deep dermis layer of the skin to correct deep facial wrinkles and folds, and sunken cheeks.  Recommended for volume replacement in the cheeks and temple areas where laser resurfacing won’t stimulate enough natural collagen to fill these areas. Not appropriate for lip lines or lip plumping.

3 to 6 Months prior to event.  Increased volume is not immediate, collagen stimulation takes approximately 1 month for visible results. For more chiseled cheekbones by Thanksgiving, NOW is the time to schedule your appointment.

Fractionated CO2 Rejuvenating Laser A deep laser skin rejuvenation process that treats one micro portion of the skin surface at a time with the appropriate amount of laser energy to ablate surface layer of skin while also stimulating new collagen growth of surrounding tissue. Skin will be visibly smoother, less wrinkled and tighter looking and sun damaged or acne scarred areas appear more evenly toned.

2 months lead time required. The upper layer of skin crusts and peels, typically within 7 to 10 days, followed by several weeks of “pink” skin. As new collagen forms the tightening effects continue over the next several months.

Injectable Dermal Fillers Injectable dermal fillers such as Restalyne, target signs of aging like fine lines and deep wrinkles. They are used to improve facial contours by restoring lost volume to areas like under the eyes, cheeks, smoothing the nasal labial folds and marionette lines from the nose down to around the mouth and jawline, filling vertical lip lines, and plumping lips.

2 weeks prior to an event is recommended, or earlier.

Injectable Wrinkle Inhibitors: Botox and Dysport Smooths wrinkles caused by muscle contractions, between the eye brows (frown lines), around the eyes (crow’s feet) and on the forehead by preventing the release of the protein that signals a muscle to contract.

2 weeks prior to event for optimal wrinkle inhibition with Botox.

Facials Your choice of facial varies according to your skin type and desired outcome: moisturize after the summer’s sun exposure; deep-cleaning; or stress relieving to increase circulation.

1 week prior to event give yourself one last splurge to exfoliate and brighten skin.

Remember the old nursery rhyme Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, where you wish upon a star?
