Start Your Leg Enhancement This Winter

Beautiful Legs By Spring. Enhance Your Legs This Winter With Varicose and Spider Vein Removal and Cellulite Reduction Treatments

Have Beautiful Legs By Spring. Enhance Your Legs This Winter With Varicose and Spider Vein Removal and Cellulite Reduction Treatments

We’ve been having some nasty weather in the Atlanta area, and we’re pretty sure you haven’t been wearing shorts and mini-skirts outside. But once January and February are crossed off the calendar, and the daffodils start to bloom, you’ll be thinking Spring. And that means that Spring Break at the beach is just around the corner. So now is the perfect time to start thinking about doing away with those varicose or spider veins. Lasermed Skin and Vein Clinic knows that right now you probably are more at ease with those unsightly veins because they are safely tucked under pants, heavy tights, and long skirts, but for most of you we’d guess you are self-conscious about them in public once the leggings come off.

Why Should I Eliminate Varicose Veins?

Varicose veins, in addition to the negative aesthetic perspective, can potentially become painful and lead to more serious health issues as a result of inflammation of varicose veins, including:

  • Throbbing, burning, aching and fatique
  • Venous leg ulcers
  • Deep vein thrombosis
  • Spider veins
  • Poor circulation

The skin protecting the varicose veins is also vulnerable to injury from an exterior force, leading to a ruptured vein. Significant bruising and blood loss may result.

What Leg Enhancement Options Are Available?

Treat Unsightly Varicose Veins During the Winter for Beautiful Legs Come Spring

At LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic in Johns Creek, we offer a range of innovative, effective and safe treatments for the removal of varicose and spider veins, and reduction of visible cellulite. We use the advanced technology Cooltouch CTEV device which emits 1320nm wavelength laser beams and heat the water content in the vein walls rather than blood cells. Other devices that have shorter wavelength heat too much heating of the blood cells and caused severe bruising and discomfort as well as longer healing time. Sclerotherapy, which is injections of a gentle solution using an acupuncture-sized needle into the blood vessels, can be used for less invasive varicose veins and spider vein treatment. This irritates the inside of the vessel and causes them to shrink and slowly disappear.

Reduce the Appearance of Cellulite With FIT and Before You Expose Your Legs This Year

Reduce the Appearance of Cellulite With FIT and Before You Expose Your Legs This Year

To combat the appearance of cellulite on thighs, buttocks and hips, LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic recommends a series of FIT laser treatments in conjunction with the groundbreaking new Resolution Cellulite® System creams and cleanser to maintain the FIT skin tightening effects and minimize the bumpy appearance of cellulite.

These effective and time efficient treatments can produce optimal results, with little to minimal bruising and discomfort, and by targeting your recovery during the winter months, by the time you’re ready to ditch your cover ups, your legs will be too.

Why is Winter Better for Leg Enhancement Treatments?

LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic stands at the forefront of treatment options for beautiful and healthy legs.  Dr. Chapman feels winter is the perfect time to start your summer leg shape up regimen, which includes treating varicose veins, spider veins and cellulite, for a number of reasons.

Maximum Effectiveness May Require Multiple Treatment Sessions. Usually more than one treatment is required for reduction of veins and cellulite, so the entire process may take between 2 to 4 months for the full effects of the treatment to be visible, although immediate reduction of veins may be evident directly after treatment. Using sclerotherapy, spider and flat blue veins require 1-2 treatments with injection therapy. Varicose veins typically need 1-2 treatments using sclerotherapy for total resolution. Laser technology may necessitate 3 or more sessions for full eradication, depending on severity and amount of veins affected, although the procedure is more effective and is considered more comfortable. Laser treatments should be scheduled between 2 to a maximum of 4 weeks apart. When using Resolution Cellulite System as recommended in conjunction with a series of FIT laser treatments for the most effective reduction in the appearance of cellulite, immediate tightening and lifting is visible, although a series of treatments is recommended for the best outcome, approximately 2 weeks apart. Because of the time factor, Dr. Chapman recommends you start now.

Winter Wardrobes Camouflage any Bruising or Discoloration. After varicose vein reduction therapy, your legs will not look too pretty for a few weeks. The veins tend to look redder and bruised, although usually the veins significantly disappear during the procedure. Bruising usually resolves after a week. With larger varicose veins, the treated veins will harden after treatment, and then become softer and recede from visibility. With particularly large veins, there may be some brown staining for several months. This is a normal and temporary result of iron pigments that remain from the red blood cells decomposing and being carried away by your own immune system.

Cover Up Compression Stockings. The first day after laser varicose vein treatment, an ace bandage will encase the treated area. Compression stockings are then typically worn for a period of 2 or more days following varicose vein removal. These are easy to conceal under cool weather clothes. Why are compression stockings recommended after laser varicose vein treatment? In addition to aiding in the healing process, they further reduce any risk of deep vein thrombosis and reduce the degree of bruising, inflammation, swelling and blood clots.

Cooler Weather Benefits The Healing Process. You may not be aware of this, but warm weather often places additional strain on your veins. If your circulation system is disposed to vein complications or weakened by varicose veins, exposure to heat should be avoided when possible. Removal of varicose veins in the winter provides adequate time to heal prior to experiencing the effects of warm weather on your veins.

You Will Be Ready for Leg Baring Fashions. If you have been uncomfortable in summertime styles which bare your legs from here to way up there, taking care of your vein issues and diminishing cellulite during the winter will give confidence to exchange sweat pants for shorts.

Comprehensive Vein Therapy at LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic

The first step in successfully treating any vein condition is finding a physician with the experience and expertise in phlebology, the field of medicine dealing with disorders of the venous system. LaserMed’s Dr. Jean Chapman is board certified by the American College of Phlebology. After conducting a complete physical examination of the condition Dr. Chapman will recommend the treatment that will best address the vein and/or cellulite conditions you want to resolve. So schedule your consultation appointment now. Believe it or not, swimsuit season is not too far away and you want to look awesome!

Healthy Skin Care – A Team Approach

Maintaining Healthy Skin is Not Out of Reach with These Healthy Skin Care Tips

Maintaining Healthy Skin is Not Out of Reach with These Healthy Skin Care Tips and Expertise From Dr. Chapman

November is National Healthy Skin Month. At LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic, we recognize that healthy skin is more than just applying products and taking restorative action, although these promote and support an existing healthy skin system. At LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic, we focus primarily on cosmetic dermatology relative to one’s external appearance, but also are dedicated to the fundamental  concept that it takes a team – Dr. Chapman, her staff, and yourself – to promote, support and maintain a beautiful and healthy skin system.  After all, your skin is your body’s immune system’s first line of defense, so you need to take care of it. It actually is the body’s largest organ, spanning approximately 21 square feet and weighing about 9 pounds on an average sized adult. Your skin is highly dependent on the circulation system for growth, maintenance and repair, and as a result, nature has designed more than 11 miles of blood vessels serving the skin system.

What is National Healthy Skin Month?

The month of November, for many parts of the country, represents an introduction to months of cold winter weather.  The intent of the designation of National Healthy Skin Month is to raise awareness about the functions of the skin and the importance of keeping skin hydrated, protected and healthy on a continuous basis, no matter what the weather. The most important things Dr. Chapman recommends to prevent skin damage, reduce signs of aging and protect one of the most vital organs of the body  on an year-round basis include protection from sun damage, annual skin exams, eating healthy, staying hydrated, using appropriate skin care products, and other steps that can keep skin looking clear, smooth and youthful.

Healthy Skin Tips

Protect, Protect, Protect: No matter what month it is, or what the temperature may be, or even if the sun is out in full force or hidden behind a cloud cover, application of a sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 30 is crucial to skin health. Although the sun is typically stronger in the summer, the sun’s rays can still be extremely damaging in winter months, particularly when reflected off of snow and at higher altitudes. In the winter, depending on climate, a combination moisturizer with SPF protection may be sufficient.

What You Put in Your Mouth Reflects on Your Skin: Feeding your skin from the inside is just as important as topical protection. A nourishing diet rich in vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants is essential in maintaining skin that’s “in the pink”. This includes consuming foods containing Omega 3s, healthy fats, whole grains and B Vitamins, to name a few. Fruits and vegetables, particularly tomatoes, which boast high levels of lycopene, a strong anti-oxidant that helps block UV penetration are especially important. As well, since skin is comprised of proteins, sources of lean proteins are vital to skin’s nutrition.

Moisturize: Hydration is key to robust skin. The type of moisturizer used in your daily skin regimen should be modified as the weather changes from warm to cold, and the use of artificial heat can dry out the skin. Or by location if you live in a year-round warm climate, products may need to be varied depending on the level of humidity or dryness. No matter what season, moisturizer should be applied to your whole body in the a.m. and before going to bed. A creamier consistency product well in winter months in areas with colder temperatures as it helps act as a barrier to harsh winds and cold works, whereas in the warmer months a more lightweight water based product may help keep pores clear. Also look for products containing humectants, including glycerin or alpha-hydroxy acids that attract moisture to your skin. It is important to differentiate between consistency and coverage – using multiple coats of moisturizer to alleviate dry skin may result in clogged pores, as opposed to using a creamier product which compensates for dry conditions.

Lips are Important Too: Your lips are very susceptible to sun damage, so avoid potential for chapping and vertical lines around the mouth by protecting them with a lip balm containing sunscreen. Apply continuously, especially in dry conditions. Use a moisturizing lip balm product at night before bed. And when you do feel your lips are dry – resist the temptation to lick them – the evaporation only makes them drier.

TLC for Your Extremities: Feet and hands don’t contain as many oil glands as your face, and other parts of your body that may be exposed to either summer sun or cold winter weather, so they can become dry and chapped very quickly. Even though small, cracks and splits in the skin of the hands or feet can be very painful, and may take a long time to heal if not cared for. The best course of action is to use mild cleansers and avoid alcohol based hand sanitizers which cause further dehydration. In winter, wear gloves and always use sunscreen on your hands and don’t forget the feet, especially in summer!!

Shorten Your Showers:  When it’s cold it’s hard to want to get out of a nice, hot shower. But the hot water is also a factor in creating dry skin, and can actually slow down your circulatory system. If you can’t live without a very hot shower, make it a quick one. Cooler shower temperatures have been shown to increase blood circulation between organs and skin, which in turn provides more nutrients to the skin and actually help assists in keeping you warm.

Humidify When Dry:  In the winter, artificial heat tends to suck the moisture from the air, which contributes to dry skin. Using a humidifier set at 30-50% humidity in the rooms most often occupied, particularly the bedroom, can help prevent arid indoor conditions.

Hydrate for Health: Summer, winter, spring or fall – drink 8 glasses of water a day says Dr. Chapman.

Manage Stress: Stress can degrade all aspects of your life, and has been found to contribute to premature aging and skin problems like acne. Find ways to de-stress during the day, take a deep breath, sip some tea, read a magazine, look away from your phone, tablet or computer, take a brief walk – it will refresh your mind, body and skin!

The Importance of Skin Exams: It cannot be emphasized enough – check your skin every month for changes in your skin such as suspicious mole, rashes and other lesions that could potentially indicate an illness or skin cancer. Schedule an annual full body skin exam with your dermatologist on an annual basis, even if you haven’t found anything of concern, as there may be some areas that are difficult for you to view.

Dr. Chapman is an expert at implementing procedures and services to help your skin look younger, even toned, more supple, tighter, and lifted, but YOU have to provide healthy skin for her to work with. Aging and the associated changes to your skin is a natural process, but by implementing these simple skin care tips to keep your skin in ultimate condition, together, you and LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic can create beautiful skin. Schedule an appointment with Dr. Chapman to discuss ways to make your skin to the next level, or drop by our new office in Johns Creek, serving the communities of Alpharetta, Sandy Springs, Cumming, Suwanee, Roswell and Johns Creek, as well as patients from all over the Atlanta Metro area and beyond,  for our monthly Open House to learn more about our services.

Medical Micro-Needling for Hair Growth

microneedlingHair loss due to male pattern baldness affects, at some point, approximately 80% of the adult male population. And women can also experience hair loss. But hair loss is not a conscious choice. The emotional aspects of living with hair loss can be stressful (for either gender) as we live in a culture that views hair as a sign of youth, attractiveness, and good health. Attitudes towards baldness have slowly been changing, aka. “bald is beautiful”, focus on the impacts of cancer in books, on TV and in movies, and a recent trend for some male celebrities to choose to shave their heads – for a role, for an impact, for a certain look – although the majority of these celebs have the option to let it grow back. However, it is doubtful most people would voluntarily opt for permanent hair loss.

In short, living with hair loss can be difficult, and past approaches to hair restoration have resulted in unnatural looking rows or clusters of hair. No one consciously wants to look like they have a crop growing on their head, or like the Little Rascals character Alfalfa. The recent advent of medical micro-needling for hair restoration, using a specially formulated growth serum, now provides a viable option for natural looking hair re-growth.

Why Does Hair Loss Occur?

Science has disclosed that the health of the scalp significantly affects hair growth. In addition to hair loss due to heredity, hair follicles can be damaged by chemical processing, a poor diet, stress, environmental hazards, chlorine, hormone imbalance, menopause, childbirth, medication, and disease. Hair follicles have resting and growing phases, and lacking proper nutrients the resting stages increase while their growing phases decrease. DHT is a hormone which undermines the absorption of vital nutrients required for healthy hair follicles. It is a factor underlying hair thinning, resulting in a damaged or miniaturized hair follicle, which impacts the ability to efficiently produce hair, and eventually the hair follicle dies and the hair falls out.

The Medical Micro-Needling Solution to Hair Regeneration

Medical micro-needling is a recent innovation used for collagen induction and initiation of cellular regeneration by inflicting a controlled skin injury. Precision-engineered stainless steel micro-needles penetrate the top layers of the scalp without causing damage. This penetration allows a much higher absorption of the growth serum element Dr. Chapman uses to treat hair loss and re-grow hair – enhancing its therapeutic effect. There are several other benefits to medical micro-needling of the scalp to stimulate hair growth.

•   Medical micro-needling the scalp removes the sebum around the hair follicles and reduces DHT from the hair papilla. By removing the sebum, and reducing DHT in the sebum, the blood supply increases and the hair follicles are therefore exposed to more nutrients for absorption.

•   Stimulates the skin’s own renewal mechanism by rushing healing agents and collagen to the hair follicles.

•   Increase hydration and promote elimination of toxins.

•   Improve elasticity and resilience.

•   Hair growth patterns are natural and density gradually increases over time. No more “bald today – hairy tomorrow” effects.

What Does the Hair Growth Serum Do?

It has been found that there are very specific peptides (proteins) that are involved in the communication process between cells and tissues. These proteins, called growth factors, regulate the growth cycle of a cell, and its replication and regeneration mechanisms. A serum has been designed explicitly to restore the normal growth cycle of hair follicles, comprised of growth factors specifically chosen to achieve maximum penetration and provide the greatest possible benefits to the scalp and follicle.  Dr. Chapman uses this growth serum simultaneously with the micro-needling process to treat both men and women. There are no known side effects.

What is the Recommended Treatment?

Dr. Chapman initially recommends a series of one treatment per week for 5 weeks. Following a “rest period” of about 2 weeks, she will re-evaluate the condition and results, and a second series of weekly treatments may be recommended. Hair growth does continue over time following the treatments, so the final outcome is not immediate. A refresher treatment may be warranted annually. If you are interested in learning more about medical micro-needling for hair growth stimulation, schedule a consultation with Dr. Chapman at our new office in Johns Creek, GA. The location is ideal for those living in Alpharetta, Sandy Springs, Cumming, Suwanne, Roswell and Johns Creek, as well as patients from all over the Atlanta Metro area and beyond.

The Magic of Medical Micro-Needling

It has been found that photo-aging is attributed to free radicals, resulting in permanent skin damage caused by environmental factors such as exposure to the sun’s UV rays, chemicals in foods, pollution. Photo-aging accounts for about 90% of the perceived signs of skin aging, including wrinkles, roughness, laxity, hyperpigmentation and general thinning. Unfortunately, this damage does not self-repair like a cut or bruise – this is the time to provide assistance from a skin rejuvenation technique to restore the youthful appearance.

What Does Medical Micro-Needling Do?

Medical micro-needling is one of the latest innovations in fractional microdermal skin needling used for collagen induction and initiation of cellular regeneration. It is a minimally-invasive non-surgical procedure for facial rejuvenation that involves the use of a micro-needling device to create controlled skin injury. This treatment revitalizes, lifts and tightens the skin and improves the appearance of common skin conditions including:

•  Acne and other scars

•  Stretch marks

•  Photo-aging

•  Fine lines

•  Uneven skin texture and complexion

•  Discoloration

The objective of Medical Micro-needling is to rapidly create a pattern of micro channels in the treatment area as the device is held perpendicular to the treatment area and moved over the skin. The pens can be adjusted for speed and needle depth for proper treatment on different areas of the face or body, and the device pierces the skin rapidly so the patient feels less pain and the skin is not torn. The controlled injury introduced by the micro channels in the skin causes blood, platelets and collagen to rush to the site to repair the topical damage, resulting in a significant increase the production of collagen and elastin. In addition, new capillaries are formed. Micro channels also enhance the skin’s ability to absorb topical serums, including vitamins, skin lighteners or growth factor serums, when applied during or immediately after the procedure, which helps leave skin smoother, fresher, and more uniform.

Which Topical Serum Option is Right For Me?

Dr. Chapman offers two levels of topical serums with Medical Micro-needling treatments. The normal protocol uses a combination of Vitamin C Serum with a B5 gel. The Vitamin C supplies a boost of anti-oxidants and the B5 gel provides a boost of hydration.

A growth factor serum may be integrated into the process when photo-aging damage from sun exposure indicates a significant decline in dermal collagen content, and a decreased rate of collagen production. Studies have indicated that this damage is directly related to decreased growth factor production. Growth factors have the primary function of activating cellular activities and are comprised of proteins that bind to receptors on the cell membrane surface. In simple terms, a decline in the number of fibroblast cells, which are considered the “laborers” in the skin, results in a reduction of collagen production and simultaneously decreases the concentration levels of growth factors. It is estimated that skin loses around 1% of the number of fibroblast cells and 1% of its thickness per year, and even more when sun exposure is elevated.

How Many Treatments Do I Need?

Patients typically require a series of treatments to see the complete result, although improvement may be seen after a single treatment. The number of Medical Micro-needling sessions depends on the individual skin condition. Three to four treatments may be needed for moderate acne scars. Other scarring may require up to 5-6 sessions. In the case of wrinkles, sun damage and aging skin conditions, one or two refresher treatments are recommended annually. A minimum of three weeks is recommended between two treatments as it takes that long for new natural collagen to form. The length of time necessary to complete the procedure depends on the condition, typically between 10 to 60 minutes to complete the procedure.

Medical Microneedling is appropriate when facial rejuvenation is recommended, yet a laser procedure or peel may not be appropriate. Schedule an appointment with Dr. Chapman at our new location, located on Old Alabama Rd. in Johns Creek, GA. The location is ideal for those living in Alpharetta, Sandy Springs, Cumming, Suwanee, Roswell and Johns Creek, as well as patients from all over the Atlanta Metro area and beyond, to determine if this procedure is the best approach for your individual concern.

Create a Fall Skin Care Plan

Where did summer go? All of a sudden there are leaves on the ground, it’s nippy at night, and the days are shorter. Mums and pumpkins are everywhere. As we don our sweaters and long pants, there is something very important to remember this time of year. Just because our extremities are covered, it doesn’t mean we can forget about our skin care routine. Although in the fall the sun, hot weather and chlorinated water may not be the major factors in drying out our skin, fall and winter introduce their own special ways to create dry, flaky skin.

In the Fall We Need to Change Up Our Skin Care Regimen to Avoid Dry, Flaky Skin.

In the Fall We Need to Change Up Our Skin Care Regimen to Avoid Dry, Flaky Skin.

Don’t Forget Sunscreen: Even though you may not be lying beside a swimming pool or luxuriating on a beach, you CANNOT forget the sunscreen. Watching a football game on metallic stands with the afternoon sun blazing down is just as damaging to your skin, despite the fact you may be wrapped in a blanket and drinking hot cocoa like your life depended on it. Bottom line, sunscreen is a daily essential, so keep it handy. At a minimum, use a daily moisturizer with SPF 25 or 30 and reapply throughout the day. Dr. Chapman recommends Tizo or Neova Sun Protection products.

Switch Out Your Body Cleanser:  In the fall, we need to swap out those fruity, sweet clear shower gels we like in the summer for a creamier shower body wash that is hydrating but still has anti-bacterial cleansing properties. Indulge in a spicy pumpkin, winter-fresh, nutty or vanilla cookie scented wash. The same concept applies to your facial cleanser too.

Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate:  Exfoliation is not just a warm weather hobby. Indoor heating, windy conditions, and cold weather can chap your skin, so exfoliation is essential for your moisturizing and anti-aging products to be most effectively absorbed. Exfoliate at least 3 times a week. You don’t need to scrub to exfoliate, instead of using toxin and chemical-packed scrubs, exfoliate naturally using fruit based scrubs, or an oil based scrub. Sounds crazy, but certain oils are actually good for your skin – it’s the sebum produced by your oil glands that causes the problems.

Moisturize Every Day: Dr. Chapman cannot stress it enough, moisturize every day to keep dry skin away. When your skin is dry but still moist after a shower or bath is an optimum time to apply lotion. It seals in the moisture already absorbed into your skin.

Keep Your Skin Care Routine Simple: Overuse of products is the biggest mistake people make in their skincare regime. Layering one upon the other, each one with different ingredients, can be irritating, and some ingredients cancel out each other’s benefits. What do you need for beautiful fall skin? A simple cleanser, sunscreen, a moisturizer, and a retinoid or retinol. Add in a gentle exfoliating product three days a week, and you are set. The simpler your skincare regimen, the more likely you are to stick with it. We carry a variety of product lines that offer the right skin care choices for you.

Analyze Your Skin: Used to have oily skin in the summer – always had a little “dew” around the nose and forehead, and now you now longer have to blot? Or is your normal skin feeling drier and flaking a bit? Or your normally dry skin extremely tight and chapped? With the transition of seasons, it is common that skin reacts to different elements and changes in response. You may need to switch some of your summer staple products. Schedule an appointment with Dr. Chapman to establish a revised skin care regime.

In addition to exfoliating, you need to maintain that glowing skin with facials, peels and other skin freshening, tightening and collagen production boosting treatments that we offer at LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic. Take the time to develop a skin care routine with Dr. Chapman. The holidays are just around the corner, and who doesn’t want to look their best? Learn about the sequence of facial procedures recommended by Dr. Chapman in our blog “Skin Rejuvenation to Sparkle for the Holidays“. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Chapman at LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic, on Old Alabama Rd. in Johns Creek, GA. The location is ideal for those living in Alpharetta, Sandy Springs, Cumming, Suwanee, Roswell and North Fulton County, as well as patients from all over the Atlanta Metro area and beyond.

Skin Rejuvenation to Sparkle for the Holidays

Labor Day Weekend has come and gone, Halloween candy is on the store shelves, and believe it or not, it’s almost the season for turkey dinners, stealing kisses under the mistletoe and champagne toasts for the New Year. For many of us, during the summer our skin has become weathered, dull, spotty, dry, and creased from being subjected to so many damaging elements: sun, glare, wind, sand, chlorine, bug spray, smoke from the barbeque, and a whole lot more. In addition, other factors besides environmental stresses may be at work to cause our faces to lose a youthful look over time: repetitive muscle action, loss of facial volume and loss of elasticity. You may ask, how do I renew, rejuvenate & repair my gradually aging, weather-worn summer skin for a healthy, glowing new appearance before the holidays? Dr. Jean Chapman suggests that RIGHT NOW is the best time to start facial rejuvenation procedures to look your sparkly best for the holiday season.

Why now you ask…the answer is that in addition to treating immediate concerns, recommended treatments such as Ultherapy and Sculptra, which promote healthy cell turnover in the skin, resulting in collagen production to lift, tighten and increase volume, often take between 3 to 6 months before optimal results are visualized. Wrinkle inhibiting injectables such as Botox and Dysport can be received closer to the holiday season, but remember that Botox typically takes at least 2 weeks to fully immobilize the muscles, and the little needle pricks take a few days to disappear. As well, injectable dermal fillers may cause some bruising and swelling, so it’s not wise to wait until the day before a party to have a cosmetic procedure and expect your party face to be WOW.

How Do I Get My Sparkle ON?

The goal is to reinvigorate your skin and appearance without making your appearance any less uniquely you, so you glow from the inside out. The process of getting your sparkle on incorporates several different objectives achieved with a variety of cosmetic dermatology treatments: stimulated collagen production; improved skin texture and tone; reduced fine lines and wrinkles; targeted plumping and tightening, increased elasticity and lifting; cleared skin; and a brighter more luminous complexion.

What is the Recommended Sequence for Treatments

For the optimum results, depending on age, skin condition, heredity, and problem area, Dr. Chapman recommends undertaking the four following treatments to recover from the summer, according to this 3 to 6 month timeline.

Ultherapy Non-invasive process uses uplifting ultrasound energy to tone, tighten, and lift loose skin by stimulating the body’s natural healing process. Brow, eyes, neck and decollete can be revitalized. Immediate improvement is evident, and collagen continues to be laid down for up to 6 months

3 to 6 Months prior to event. Sustained improvement is seen for up to six months after initial treatment. Schedule by September or early October for optimal rejuvenation effects.

Sculptra A series of injections into the deep dermis layer of the skin to correct deep facial wrinkles and folds, and sunken cheeks.  Recommended for volume replacement in the cheeks and temple areas where laser resurfacing won’t stimulate enough natural collagen to fill these areas. Not appropriate for lip lines or lip plumping.

3 to 6 Months prior to event.  Increased volume is not immediate, collagen stimulation takes approximately 1 month for visible results. For more chiseled cheekbones by Thanksgiving, NOW is the time to schedule your appointment.

Fractionated CO2 Rejuvenating Laser A deep laser skin rejuvenation process that treats one micro portion of the skin surface at a time with the appropriate amount of laser energy to ablate surface layer of skin while also stimulating new collagen growth of surrounding tissue. Skin will be visibly smoother, less wrinkled and tighter looking and sun damaged or acne scarred areas appear more evenly toned.

2 months lead time required. The upper layer of skin crusts and peels, typically within 7 to 10 days, followed by several weeks of “pink” skin. As new collagen forms the tightening effects continue over the next several months.

Injectable Dermal Fillers Injectable dermal fillers such as Restalyne, target signs of aging like fine lines and deep wrinkles. They are used to improve facial contours by restoring lost volume to areas like under the eyes, cheeks, smoothing the nasal labial folds and marionette lines from the nose down to around the mouth and jawline, filling vertical lip lines, and plumping lips.

2 weeks prior to an event is recommended, or earlier.

Injectable Wrinkle Inhibitors: Botox and Dysport Smooths wrinkles caused by muscle contractions, between the eye brows (frown lines), around the eyes (crow’s feet) and on the forehead by preventing the release of the protein that signals a muscle to contract.

2 weeks prior to event for optimal wrinkle inhibition with Botox.

Facials Your choice of facial varies according to your skin type and desired outcome: moisturize after the summer’s sun exposure; deep-cleaning; or stress relieving to increase circulation.

1 week prior to event give yourself one last splurge to exfoliate and brighten skin.

Remember the old nursery rhyme Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, where you wish upon a star? Well now you can do more than wish for professional treatments that reverse skin damage to bring that sparkle back by the holidays. You can “twinkle, twinkle little star, don’t let people know how old you are” by scheduling your consultation with Dr. Chapman in the new LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic office, located on Old Alabama Rd. in Johns Creek, GA. The location is ideal for those living in Alpharetta, Sandy Springs, Cumming, Suwanee, Roswell and North Fulton County, as well as patients from all over the Atlanta Metro area and beyond.

Smartphone Face: Side Effect of Technology

Ultherapy at LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic can Firm and Tighten the Signs of Smartphone Face

Ultherapy at LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic can Firm and Tighten the Signs of Smartphone Face

A relatively new phenomenon, hand-held cellphones and pad devices have been offenders held responsible for impairing our overall health, our eye site, our hearing, our sleep patterns, irradiating us, and even spoiling our personal relationships. Accidents occurring as a result of walking and/or driving while checking the smartphone have increased dramatically, sometimes resulting in loss of life. Now we have another potential side-effect – and the contest between appearance and technology is on.

Can smartphones prematurely age you? Our dependence on cell phones and other portable electronic devices appears to be sparking a relatively new phenomenon, but it could become a drooping jawline epidemic. It’s what is currently called “Smartphone Face” for lack of a better term. What is it you ask? Smartphone Face is a reflection of YOU with a combination of sagging jowls, double chins, and marionette lines.  It begins to develop as a result of sitting for hours on end staring at your cell phone or laptop pad with a bent neck, head slightly forward.  This lovely “downward gaze” position tends to shorten the neck muscles while simultaneously increasing our friend – gravitational pull – on the jowl area. Viola! We have drooping jawline!  It’s especially noticeable during selfie sessions and video-chats. Even the younger generation is at greater risk for drooping jawline and neck creasing.

In and of itself, a smartphone isn’t going to cause drooping and line formation. Most physical symptoms of smartphone face can be attributed to genetics, the progressive skin laxity and loss of collagen associated with aging, and variations in weight. Combined with the downward gravitational pull of gazing into the mobile device, the lower portions of some people’s faces are naturally more susceptible to developing the indications of this affliction. While the least costly and most effective “cure” for Smartphone Face is to go cold turkey and abandon the use of your hand-held communication device, we all know in this world of gadgets that isn’t going to happen. That leaves other options of surgery or cosmetic treatments.

In recent years there appears to be a rapid rise (over 70% increase) in “chinplants” and other jaw-focused cosmetic surgery. So much in fact that a name has been coined for chin plant surgery to correct Smartphone Face – the “chintervention”. However, a chin implant can typically cost in the range of $7,000, and cost aside, it is not really the solution for most people, because in Smartphone Face, the principal problem is not bone loss which a chin plant corrects.  It’s the interrelationship of fat and soft tissue loss with gravitational pull emphasized by the bent neck/downward oriented facial position.

So, a unless bone loss is your issue, you can avoid surgery and firm up your jawline with a plethora of less invasive techniques ranging from: face yoga; home gym neckline trainers and other facial exercises; chin sculpting dermal fillers, wrinkle inhibitor injections such as Botox; skin-tightening lotions and facials; liposuction/laser tighteners; and then there is Ultherapy treatment.

Ultherapy is LaserMed’s recommended non-surgical FDA cleared treatment that has the capability to lift and tighten those first telltale signs of technology – receding jawline, bulldog jowls, sagging skin on the neck and chin jiggle, with minimal downtime using a non-invasive procedure. Ultherapy™ works similarly to an ultrasound. A smooth applicator is placed on your skin, which projects an image onto a screen. Low levels of focused heat are delivered at just the right depth below the skin, leaving the skin’s surface undisturbed. Your skin then responds to the energy by triggering new collagen production, which forms a sturdy structure for your skin, giving it a natural lift and firmness over time. This process continues for 2 to 3 months after having the Ultherapy™ treatment.

The whole treatment is done in about an hour and is done in Dr. Chapman’s office located on Old Alabama Rd. in Johns Creek, GA. The location is ideal for those living in Alpharetta, Sandy Springs, Cumming, Suwanne, Roswell and Johns Creek, as well as patients from all over the Atlanta Metro area and beyond. Just remember to keep your phone at eye level and your chin up when you text or gaze into your mobile device to maintain your youthful appearance.

The Skin Care Benefits of Facials

Relax and Rejuvenate Your Skin with a Facial at LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic in Johns Creek, GA

Relax and Rejuvenate Your Skin with a Facial at LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic in Johns Creek, GA

Everyone loves indulging in a facial – who doesn’t enjoy being pampered?  But aside from the relaxation and serenity perks, a facial can provide numerous health and wellness benefits. Your choice of facial varies according to your skin type and desired outcome. Do you want to moisturize after the summer’s sun exposure? Do you want to attack pores and acne with a deep-cleaning? Or is a stress relieving facial to increase circulation and eliminate the stress triggers for breakouts your choice?

Which Facial Do I Choose?

The basics of good skin care include proper cleansing, moisturizing, sun protection, and promotion of skin renewal and regeneration. At LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic, we recommend one of the following facial treatments using the finest products.

Cleansing: Cleansing facials have several purposes: Open the pores of the skin; slough off dead skin and toxins from the face, tighten and firm the skin by cleansing the surface using exfoliation, and reduce an overabundance of sebum that can cause blackheads and acne. LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic offers a SkinCeutical Deep Pore Cleansing Facial, which combines deep pore cleansing combined with an exfoliation glycolic gel peel, finishing with a Vitamin C firming masque. Botanicals in the corrective products are anti-bacterial, and the masque draws out impurities and oils that can be harmful to the skin and clog pores. Perfect for those with acne or teenaged skin type.

Increased Circulation: Certain custom facials are intended to boost circulation to facial skin layers. Our skin care expert will recommend what is perfect for your skin. This treatment includes cleansing, steam, extractions when necessary, a customized mask and a soothing neck and shoulder massage to improve circulation. This blast of oxygen-enriched blood plumps skin cells with essential nutrients and water, which furnishes your skin with a healthy glow. The result? The appearance of dry and wrinkled skin is diminished. The plus? Development of new skin cells which contributes to a youthful, healthy appearance.

Sun Exposure Correction: Your face is ready for a little renewal after a summer of sun, wind, heat and pollutants with this hydrating facial. LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic’s Epionce Sun Correction Facial corrects uneven skin tone and dark spots caused by over-exposure to the sun.  Epionce products contain botanically based brightening ingredients without the use of Hydroquinone of Parabens. This facial is safe for all skin types.

A Solution to Turkey Neck of the Décolleté

Ultherapy Decolletage | Atlanta | Alpharetta | LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic

LaserMed is One of the First to Offer Ultherapy Decolletage in the Johns Creek, Alpharetta, Milton and North Fulton Metro area

Does your chest have “turkey neck”? Are you tired of loving low cut tops but never wearing one? Don’t take off your bathing suit cover up? Do you have a drawer full of scarves to cover up your décolleté area?  Like many of us who grew up using baby oil and iodine as our suntan lotion as we baked for hours in the sun trying to attain that perfect caramel color all the way down to our bones, we now are realizing the damage we caused to the delicate skin on our chests.  But now LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic has great news to share for patients in the north Atlanta metro area!

FDA Approved Ultherapy Décolletage Treatment

Ultherapy announces the new and only FDA cleared non-invasive Décolletage Treatment for the chest to improve the effect of lines and wrinkles on the décolleté area. Ultherapy Décolletage Treatment is a 30 minute single ultrasound procedure with no downtime, designed to stimulate the body’s natural collagen production. And it’s safe. What is so great is that Ultherapy Décolletage treatment can be used as a stand-alone treatment or in addition to the other Ultherapy lifting treatments which we provide on the face and neck.

How Does Ultherapy Décolletage Work?

Ultherapy Décolletage Treatment works by delivering the right amount of ultrasound energy at the right depths and the right temperature.  This energy triggers a natural response under the skin, triggering the regenerative process that strengthens weak collagen and produces fresh, new collagen. Other methods used to reduce wrinkles, including lasers, radio frequency technology, and even surgery cannot bypass the superficial skin layers and target the deeper structural sub-layers of the skin. Part of the beauty of the treatment is that it uses traditional ultrasound imaging, which allows Dr. Chapman to see the layers of tissue being treated, ensuring the energy is delivered specifically to the targeted area.

When Will I See Results?

Some patients see an initial effect right after their treatment, but the real results are visible after about three months as new collagen works smooth skin on the chest.  Most patients enjoy fresh, young collagen for at least a year after their procedure.  As skin continues to age, future touch-up treatments can help keep pace with the natural aging process. Using sunscreen on the décolleté area is a must.

We are proud to be among the first providers of the Ultherapy Décolletage treatment in the north Atlanta metro area, serving residents of Johns Creek, Alpharetta, Milton, Roswell and south Forsyth county. If you feel that you may be a candidate for the Ultherapy Treatment to help minimize the look of your décolleté area wrinkles, contact us to set up a consultation with Dr. Chapman. It’s time to wear V necks again!

Dimples Are Adorable in Cheeks, Not Your Thighs

Does the thought of exposing your legs anywhere above the knee terrify you? Are Bermudas the only style of shorts you will wear? Do you search for a bathing suit with a skirt to provide the most coverage possible? One term says it all – cellulite. You are not alone in your frustration, and you are not at fault. Scientific study has found that, (unfortunately) women’s bodies are predisposed to develop cellulite. Statistics indicate that almost 90% of American women suffer from some degree of cellulite, and it is difficult to avoid developing the dimpling condition.

What is Cellulite?

According to the current medical standards, cellulite is defined as subcutaneous fat and fibrous tissue deposits that result in the dimpling of the skin surface on the thighs, hips and buttocks, giving it an appearance akin to an orange peel or cottage cheese. The formation of cellulite is a result of five factors: accumulation of toxins; enlarged fat cells; water retention; poor circulation; and thinning of connective tissue. For most women, weight is not a determinant in developing cellulite. In fact, cellulite is often even more visible in thin women. Even maintaining a healthy lifestyle with a proper diet and exercise still does not always eradicate the cellulite, although building smooth muscle beneath the surface of the skin can help smooth out the surface to some degree, and a diet rich in non-processed foods can help decelerate the progression of the condition. Color of skin does not camouflage cellulite. In addition, cellulite does not disappear with traditional liposuction procedures – in fact – the bumpy, lumpy pockets may become more visible. Needless to say, cellulite is very stubborn.

LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic Recommends Resolution Cellulite Kit With FIT Laser Skin Tightening Treatments for a Dramatic Reduction in the Appearance of Cellulite

LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic Recommends Resolution Cellulite Kit With FIT Laser Skin Tightening Treatments for a Dramatic Reduction in the Appearance of Cellulite

Relief is In Sight

Although there is no miracle cure for Cellulite, LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic introduces a groundbreaking new product from ResolutionMD to help minimize the superficial signs of cellulite. Although the system may be used on its own, results are particularly effective and enhanced when the Resolution Cellulite® System is used in concert with a series of LaserMed’s FIT non-surgical skin tightening laser treatments. FIT is a Multipolar radio frequency procedure which targets laxity and sagginess on the body and face for instant, temporary tightening. Combining the Resolution Cellulite® System with a series of FIT treatment sessions will maintain the FIT skin tightening effects and minimize the bumpy appearance of cellulite.

How Does The Resolution Cellulite® System Work?

The application of the Resolution Cellulite® System follows a simple three step daily regimen:

1. Apply Cellurase™ Renewal Cream to targeted areas every night before bedtime. This formula contains high concentrations of Retinol, Vitamin C and Caffeine to reduce the appearance of cellulite by smoothing, firming and tightening your skin.

2. Apply Firming Moisturizer every morning before getting dressed. This product is designed to work in synergy with Cellurase™ Renewal Cream to enhance firming action and hydration while calming the skin. Superior results are achieved through the combination of the advanced Peptide Complex and Fruit Extract technologies with performance moisturizers and soothing botanicals such as Shea Butter, Green Tea, Aloe and Vitamin E.

3. Shower daily using Buff & Tone Body Wash, which combines exfoliating massage with high vitamin and amino rich Bladderwrack (Brown) Algae Extract along with Caffeine in the patented SalSphere™ delivery system infused into a bath sponge.

When Can I Expect to See Results?

When using Resolution Cellulite System as recommended in conjunction with a series of FIT laser treatments for the most effective reduction in the appearance of cellulite, immediate tightening and lifting is visible. When using the Resolution Cellulite® System on its own, you can see modest improvement beginning as early as 2 weeks, although more defined results are evident after 4 to 6 weeks. Although complete and total elimination of cellulite is not a realistic expectation of this groundbreaking system, you’ll be wearing short shorts and thigh high bathing suits in a short time with the exciting, visible results that can be achieved. As with most cosmetic procedures, use of the Resolution Cellulite® System needs to be continued for maintenance of results.

LaserMed Skin and Vein Clinic is pleased to offer the FIT skin tightening laser treatments and  Resolution Cellulite® System as a package with special pricing in August 2014, or the Resolution Cellulite® System can be purchased  individually. The FIT laser treatment is done in less than an hour in Dr. Chapman’s office located on Old Alabama Rd. in Johns Creek, GA, an ideal location  for those living in Alpharetta, Sandy Springs, Cumming, Suwanne, Roswell and Johns Creek, as well as areas outside of the metro Atlanta area.
