TCA Peels can be epidermal or dermal peels based on the strength, number of layers and how long it is applied. Strength can be 20%, 30% or stronger. One of more know TCA peels are called Blue Peels made by Obagi and can be applied up to 3 layers. These can improve smoothness, superficial sun damage to deeper acne scarring, severe sun damage, melasma, enlarged pores and rough skin texture and more.

Using 75% to 90% TCA these can be applied using toothpicks into the deep but pinpoint icepick acne scarring. Icepick acne scarring is traditionally the most difficult type of acne scarring one can get. Historically these were resistant to laser resurfacing or deep chemical full face peels. This technique was first developed at Yonsei University dermatologists in Seoul, Korea as that type of acne scarring is more prevalent in Asian patients. It has used with great success but not as widely practiced due to difficulty in learning the technique as well as fear of using such high strength of  TCA. Dr. Chapman has performed this technique for many years with success at LaserMed Skin & Vein Clinic for patients that did not improve with usual laser treatments or for those that only had more localized icepick scars and no other skin conditions to address.

These treatments start at $95 per treatment up to $900 for multilayer blue peels. Multilayer Blue Peels may be done only once but more superficial peels may require several treatments over time based on the skin issues to be improved. LaserMed Skin & Vein Clinic also offers Care Credit Patient Payment plans.
