Sclerotherapy: The Long and the Short of It
Tennis skirts, shorts, bathing suits, and short skirts are flirty and fun items of apparel, but they can be painfully revealing if you suffer from spider veins. Individuals of any age can develop spider veins. Sometimes it takes a while to make up your mind to seek treatment, but don’t put it off any longer. Jean Chapman, M.D., a board-certified vein doctor in Alpharetta, GA, is ready to help.
Make an Appointment to Get Checked
At your consultation appointment, Dr. Chapman will discuss your medical history and make a full evaluation of your veins. Normally, if your veins are small to medium, the best treatment is sclerotherapy. Dr. Chapman will discuss the treatment with you and answer any questions you may have before she begins.
The procedure takes place in the office where Dr. Chapman injects an FDA-approved solution into the targeted vein. The solution causes scar tissue to form inside the vein which seals it. Eventually, the vein shrinks then disappears because the feeder vein is cut off. The treatment is painless and requires no anesthesia. Sometimes ultrasound is used when injecting veins below the skin. Stubborn veins may take two treatments to fully dissolve.
Follow up treatment may include a compression bandage or stocking. Walking is encouraged because it speeds healing. Dr. Chapman and her staff are available to answer any questions you may have post-treatment.
Each patient is unique; treatment results may vary.
The sooner you seek treatment for spider veins, the better. You will see a visible difference in a matter of weeks once this painless treatment takes effect.
